Been a user of Nikon cameras since I had a D200 and in the processing of selling my D3 to get a 5Dmk2

This is not a you should have stayed with Nikon thread but just wanted your thoughts on lens I should look at and stay clear of. I shoot studio and fashion and arty farty stuff so the lens I've short listed are...

24-70mm L f2.8
135mm L f2
35mm L f1.4

maybe 24-105mm F4 L

any other I might be missing out on, the 50mm & 85mm 1.2L are a bit out of my budget.

:D

for a 50mm you could always go with the sig 1.4, sharper wide open than the canon version..

p.s - welcome aboard :D

The 85mm f1.2 maybe out of your budget but I won't fault the 85mm f1.8 USM.

Just out of curiosity, why the change over?

Slugging around a D3 & D7000 is a pain in the bum so want a all in one solution for some video work I want to do and the 5D Mk2 fits the bill. I'm not down with the whole Canon v's Nikon crap I just use what ever camera suits my needs and in this case it now canon ;)

I have the 50mm f1.4 on my D3 but it just comes up a bit tight hence the 35mm f1.4 :D

No disrespect intended, but would you really need the prime family? Couldn't you just choose one and move :P Is it something to do with the minimal focal distance?

Field of view, moving closer with a 35 does not give you the same picture as a 50 further back, I'm constantly amazed how many people think it does!

24-70L 2.8
35, 50, 80, 135L, althought I'd get the 1.4 over the 1.2 in the 50mm range...not worth the extra dosh imo. Also check out the Sigma 85mm 1.4 - looks awesome :)

It's all you'll ever need!

If you can afford it, the drop off on the 50mm 1.2 is incredible.
