A friend has just been quoted £140.00 to replace offside front coil spring on mk3 Mondeo. Considering the part costs about £40, does this sound a bit expensive?

In my opinion they are charging a hundred quid for the risk to whoever is using the spring clamp. :p

If the offside has gone the nearside won't be far behind it - on my Mk1 Mondeo they both failed at exactly the same time.

Not really designed for jumping hump back bridges Dukes of Hazard style are they. :p

Can't say I'd pay £140. Autodata puts it down as 1.6 hours labour and it isn't a particularly difficult job.

The part cost me £30 trade for a KYB item but you can get cheaper ones for as little as £15!

assuming £50 an hour labour rate, thats about £80 labour and £30 / £40 part cost.

Its not exactly cheap but he's not being ripped off either. Depends how convenient it is compared with the opposition.

It takes about half hour to change a spring on a Mondeo. Ideally you would want to change them both as a pair.

£140 is a tad expensive but for a garage its probarbly about right.
