Iiyama monitor upgrade

Hi, I currently have a Prolite E2207WS and am very pleased with it but need a 24" upgrade. I am looking at the various Iiyama monitors and wondered if there are any opinions on these:

ProLite E2410HDSD
ProLite E2409HDS
ProLite E2407HDS

and also the LED Prolite E2472HD

Does it follow that the E2410HDSD is better than E2409HDS and that is better than the E2407HDS? Is the LED one going to be better for gaming and general use than the LCD?

Even though the E2409HDS is on offer this week, the normal price is cheaper than the E2407HDS and the only difference in the specs is the greater contrast ratio.

So out of them all should I go for the E2407HDS?

My budget is around £200.

Thanks for any assistance.

I've got the E2409HDS (or rather, 2 of them) and I think they're excellent. I can see some backlight bleed when showing a blank black screen but never noticable in my normal desktop stuff or gaming. Colours and brightness are nice, after setting them up obviously, and I even like the look of the thing - the bezel is understated and matt with the blue power indicator not too distracting.

When I was looking I couldn't work out why the E2409HDS was cheaper than the E2407. The E stands for Economy base (the alternative is B for Business, which has height adjustment). The 24 is, obviously, the size. The "D" after the number indicates it had HDMI. I don't know what the "09" or "07" is. I assumed it was year of design, but why would a 2007 design be more expensive than the 2009 one?

Iiyama's LED-backlit models have generally been a bit weaker than the other ones for colour reproduction, for whatever reason. Iiyama model numbers are a bit confusing because the number at the end is just a way of differentiating monitors from different series and doesn't correspond to the year of manufacture. 'E' is actually entertainment rather than economy. Aside from aesthetics the E2409HDS and E2407 are of similar quality and are good all-rounders. I haven't used either unfortunately but have used similar business models that probably use the same panels and they are pretty solid.

Is the LED one going to be better for gaming and general use than the LCD?

A normal (non-LED) panel is backlit constantly by a few big lights (3?). When it needs to show black it has to cover the light but cannot switch it off - so you end up with dark grey. A full LED screen is lit by individual LEDs and when that needs to produce black, it simply turns off the LED in that section, hey presto, proper black!

The confusion comes where you have a monitor that proclaims itself to be "LED" but all it is is where the constant backlight is provided by LEDs. As these LEDs cannot be turned off (or the whole screen would go black) they still have to cover the light to get black - and so you still get dark grey.

I have no experience or documentation to back this up, but I'd say there will be no difference between an LED monitor and a non-LED monitor at this price range. Both will be constant full backlight illumination, just two different ways to produce it that will make no difference to image quality.

EDIT - this is based on my understanding of a subject I haven't really researched too much. I stand prepared to be corrected! :)

I have two E2407HDS and an E2407HDSD (Non-HDMI version) and they've been great for me :) Had to adjust the colour a bit since it was a tad blue but after that, they're brilliant.

just set up my e2409hds great picture had to reduce the brightness a bit the trouble is had it on my own speakers but now its on the monitor speakers and I can't seem to get my own speakers back on, any ideas tried the menu but they won't work

If you have it connected by HDMI, then on the bottom right, right click on the speakers, click on playback devices and select speakers. Then click the "Set default" button. This will disable the Monitor speakers and will enable your own speakers.

hi all, well got the iiyama e2409hds must say takes some getting used to after the 17" crt but no dead pixels and no backlight bleed so for £140 don't think i could have got better for the money its great.
