Hello all

Getting bogged down with the details trying to organize this for me, my best mate and my dad, in 3 cars going via hull > Zebrugga.

Ferries were looking to be about £200 per car, but i rang up and asked for a quote and to find out if i can pay in Euros and she come back with a quote of 247 euros for the lead car then 7 euros for each extra car with the 3 people sharing a 4 berth room.. this seems very cheap and not sure if its what i need.

The date i am thinking of going is 5th while the 9th or 10th of May 2011

The ring timetable is a nightmare as well, no confirmed dates have been released for that period, and that time of the year especially if it happens to fall on a German bank holiday apparently could be ridiculously busy.

Also don't know what to do about track day insurance, the insurance on my 197 is already high at £950 with 6 years no claims, and once you have told them its something you are thinking about doing you cant take it back really, its been suggested to me that it could be as high as £200, and not only that it ties you down to a specific day for going round the ring.

Finally we are wanting to possibly go somewhere else for a night either somewhere close to the ring or on the way that is interesting, my dad has suggested Amsterdam but he is going there later in the year anyway and i am not sure how much it appeals to me

Thank you for any input

 that doesn't sound right at all.

I am only 24 though, and have a few modifications insured like for like with my no claims protected

Most people would not even look at insuring me, one other was slightly cheaper but they would not insure any modifications

Amsterdam is good fun, but worth a seperate trip IMO, and potentially not one that involve any driving! plus will be a pain to park.

Track insurance for the ring will probably be in that ballpark.

German bank holiday will be busy, normally best to wait until confirmed dates are up otherwise you could go out for a long weekend and only get two half day sessions or similar.

I was under the impression that you can't get insurance for the ring, unless you hire a track car from one of the companies there with an excess of several thousand.

Yea been reading about it just now, apparently most track day insurance only covers "organised track days" and not touristfahren days as they are essentially open days

No it's not - there are loads of "park and rides" outside where the parking ticket pays for you and the people in the car to use the public transport in...

Am I insured?
Yes. Each RSR car is insured for up to €6 million of third-party damages while driving on the public roads and specifically the Nordschleife during Touristenfahrten. This policy does NOT cover your own health and damages. There are still excesses to pay for both third-party claims as well as damages to your rental car. For third-party claims the excess is set at €5000. For damage to the rental car, your liabilites will be restricted to the excess amounts set out in the rental contract. These are currently *€8000 for the Clios and Alfas, €15000 on the Meganes, €35000 on the BMW M3, €50000 on the GT3 Cup car and €75000 for the GT3RS.

You may be insured, but Christ I wouldn't fancy paying the excess.

Have you read this:

Those are some intersting excess bills, especially when you are not covered for your own injuries...

RSR has just lost it's licence (politics I believe, nothing they did wrong) to run its cars at the Ring, as have other similar companies. It is a big can of worms I believe.

That sounds like what we paid - paid for a car and a 4 berth cabin, then a bit more for the second car.

I read something about this on NL, to me it stinks of the 'ring owners realising how much debt they're actually in and trying to fight off any competition that they can - starting with the larger companies.

I just hope rent4ring are still there when I go back at some point this year :D

One bit of advice I'd give is to try and go during the week - yes the track is only open on evenings (usually) but it's VERY quiet. We did laps where there were only ~10 cars in the car park, and only a handful on track at the same time as you (some laps nothing overtook us, some laps 1 or 2 people)

Obviously I appreciate it's easier to go for a weekend, but you can always go on a Tues/Weds ferry and then come back on the Sunday/Monday. This is what we did this year and found it worked well as we got our laps in on the Wednesday and Thursday, then chilled out watching the madness over the weekend (it was a British bank holiday! Didn't know at the time of booking lol)

Yeah it'll be updated at some point. I think we booked our trip around Feb/March time last year (we went at the end of April I think) and the calendar was out and accurate at that point.

I also found there wasn't much difference in ferry prices when booking 1-2 months in advance, compared with booking 4-5 months in advance (started planning the trip in December and I think I was quoted the same price for the ferry then as to what I paid nearer the time) so you shouldn't need to worry about that. There's loads of hotels/guesthouses in the local area - and some a bit further out, so you should be OK providing you don't go on a bank holiday as everywhere may get booked up early.

£200 quid for the ferry !!!!!!!!!!

You are picking the wrong days and the wrong service if you ask me.

Last time I went it was between £50-70 quid.
