Hi all,

I'm hopefully heading off to the Autosport show tomorrow at the NEC. I've got a student pass, so no general public! Hoping to make some contacts for my placement.

Has anyone been on the press/student days before? Care to share the experience?

Thanks, Ben

edit: Fail. Its 2011 now, can a mod edit please?

I'm looking to secure a summer placement fairly soon, and am hoping to speak to the appropriate people. Is the autosport show like that, or is it more geared towards the 'show' side of things?

As you can tell, I've never been!

Went last year on business. Was much smaller than in the past, but was reasonably interesting.

We did manage to scrounge some epic deals with suppliers though.

forgot this show was on, I only live one stop down the line from Birmingham International (3 mins on train) so I might pop up and have a look before I go to work on Sunday.

I'm going tomorrow with the other people on my course. Got a 6:30am wake up :(

Still, should be fun! Gunna pay particular attention to any mx5's I see. Got a couple of mates who are working there aswell, one on the AST suspension stand and the other on litchfield imports so I may be hanging around there too :p

I quite fancied a day out to this for a wander round, £30 for the ticket though, and £8 to park

A lot less than it has been in recent years I think, although I maybe thinking of MPH Show which goes up about 50% every time...I'm sure Autosport was about £42 when I last went last year!

I'll be going anyway, convoy down on the Saturday. Honk if you see a red DC2 and a grey FQ360. :D

I'll think of you 'public' people when I'm strolling around Friday in the wide open isles wondering how the hell all those bloody students get let in!! :D

I've been on Friday Trade Day before. IIRC Friday is more like the public days than Thursday - sure I remember hearing that some things aren't running on the Thursday.

I loved it . Apparently lots of the really cool trade stands aren't even there on the public days! I remember one machine that made the engine block out of a solid billit of aluminium, even the water channels apparently! I told school it was an education day off or something :p.

I did get in trouble with the SWMBO at the time when she saw the photos of the girls though :D.

Yes, well not the actual pass, but I have just finished the BMW build, we are showcasing an M3 GTS and an M3 Coupe. Press days are definitely worth your while, less people, easier to get about.

As for getting contacts, this depends, you might end up getting fobbed along by the wrong people (i.e those without influence).

Anyway, it is looking good. Check us out, near McClaren.
