Ford warranty troubles

of course theres something to loose.

If you go to another dealer and ask them to service and act all surprised at the fault they find Ford are going to tear you a new one - because it looks like exactly what you're trying to do - con them.

Hardly a con, all the facts are written down.

If the gearbox was fixed it would need servicing anyway.

Where would you draw the line for being out of warranty? 2k over, 5k, 20k more?
Is the gearbox seviced at a 37.5k service interval?

If not it doesn't matter at all and it's more a case of a gearbox is guaranteed for 5 years or 100k miles.

To say the warranty does not apply because the service interval is overdue is a bit too harsh, unless they had to do serious maintenance at the service interval which has caused the gearbox to die because it wasn't done.

Mate were talking about a gearbox which i suspect isnt included in any services up untill now ... Then we get onto a gearbox failing when its only done 39000 miles when its on an 09 plate.

To be honest im not really bothered, just trying to help someone out in my company :)

Gearbox oil level is checked on every service and that is all the excuse any main dealer will need to invalidate the warranty, the AA are not covering a head gasket on a astra we have because it was serviced a month too late.

I think it would be exceedingly poor of ford to not honour a gearbox fault at 39K miles, within the warranty period, with such a small lapse of service interval adherence.

Especially when it's exceedingly likely the service would have had no bearing (every pun intended) on the premature demise of the afflicted part in question..

Is it? I looked at the service schedules Janesy B linked to, they don't mention anything more then 'Clutch - Check/Adjust as necessary', no mention of changing/checking gearbox oil..

And on a ropey AA Warranty, I expect them to weasle out of it so easily, but when my DMF failed on my Zafira, it was 1700 miles overdue a service, and they didn't bat an eye-lid..

they are not going to "tear you a new one".... you are the customer... there is nothing wrong with getting a car serviced with a known issue..

if the don't find the fault then you can say to Ford CS "I had it serviced WITH the fault and they never noticed, so how would they have picked up the fault 1500 miles ago"

On a side note, we have a 2005 Focus we bought last year and my girlfriend made me get the 2 years warranty :/ Is there anywhere written down clearly that says we must have the car serviced next at x miles / x years to make sure the warranty isn't invalidated? All i got from them was a one sheet piece of paper saying what warranty i'd actually bought.

The norm is always to comply with the manufacturers servicing schedule, if you don't, expect any 3rd party warranty to fully bail out of any claim..

^^^ Or infact, what Mike wrote 16 minutes ago.. ;)

your still arguing the case with ford though.

We all know it wouldnt have been picked up at the service.

You could send the car for a service, pay for it and take it back and not say anything about the fault, but to my mind it doesnt get you any further - it still needs ford to do it as a gesture of good will.

The con part comes from if you were to act surprised when they developed a fault and asked them to fix it and hide the fact you've already taken it to another dealer for that issue and they refused it.

they normally only let you go 1000miles or 1 month over the schedule to keep the warranty intact, this is what i was told at Ford. My Focus ST detonated its gearbox at 15k miles and they were like ohh your lucky you only went 2 weeks over the schedule as its 1 month or 1000miles, so I think your gonna have an uphill struggle with this one!

It's a company car, who cares? Not the fleet manager, that's for sure as they didn't have the foresight book it in in good time :D

But seriously, that is pretty stingy considering the age of the car - all you can really do is appeal to Ford as mentioned, although the warranty conditions have clearly been breached.
That said, it depends on what exactly is wrong with the box, I'm mean are you sure it needs replacing? Or did the dealer clock it was a company car, saw big flashing $ signs and assumed the work would simply be paid for without a second thought?

If its a company car, the warranty is already out of the window, so get a refurbished box for much cheaper, but first get a second opinion on the job.

having previous worked for ford CRC i would reccomend contacting them direct and bypassing the dealer who are obviously trying to rip the proverbial, gearbox should really not be giving you issues at that mileage and tbh the service would not have indicated anything unless there is a blindingly obvious issue ie clunking or whining from the box so my advise

1) contact ford crc on 0845 841 1111
2) explain you feel there is an issue with the box
3) follow their lead (normally they will try and make arrangments for your local dealer to inspect asap (try and tie this in with getting your service done, phone alternative ford dealer and say you have gearbox concern and could they investigate whilst car is in for service
4) sit back relax and let ford crc/dealer do their job this will get fixed under warranty

any problems e-mail in trust
