hi, what are these like on the whole as a processor. not used amd stuff for ages, wont be doing anything too stressful with it, just basically a media pc that will burn the occassional disc.

awesome. i have 6GB of DDR3 1333mhz to go with it, basically had an i7 build, never really used it, so sold it and got a ps3, now miss having a desktop as the laptop is sooo awkward for things like disc burning and media streaming.

Stuck one of these my brothers computer as a cheap gaming CPU about 10 months ago I think. Overclocked to 3.2Ghz right off the bat with a simple FSB change, and it's been sweet as a nut since.

Should be more than adequate for media playback coupled with a low end graphics card or semi decent on board GPU.

Actually might have been the Athlon II 245 I used, but it's basically the same CPU anyways.

the motherboard is a GA-M52LT-D3, pretty sure it doesnt have onboard graphics though :( so will look at a cheap ATI HD4*** card or something.

Built a cheap computer for a friend with the X2 260 and 4Gb DDR3, he does photoshop CS4/5 and general photographic stuff, it is fast enough for him.

ok thanks for that. its not going to be used a lot, once or twice a month maybe. just want something that will be able to possibly convert some of our video files from the camcorder (think they are avi) to dvd without spending an age or failing, watch the odd film and burn the odd photo cd.

If you plan to play HD media then yes, it will help :)
Also, I would perhaps use 4gb instead for dual channel, just keep the spare stick as a spare or something.

it only has 4GB installed now, one of my old sticks was faulty :(
will eventually play HD films, but at the moment it only has a 7200GS installed as its all i had spare.
also with relation to my other post about the GA-M52LT-D3, i have a feeling my cpu might not be running at its full :(
