New Car

2.7 as well. its just the XJ drives so much better.

Hmmm... How much heavier is the XJ? It's all ally isn't it? I bet it's not much heavier than an S-Type...

A very quick look says an X358 XJ will be a few grand more than an equivalent S, and I'm aiming to keep costs low on the daily driver, to spend more on the second car...

Also I was going to say I'm not sure I'm ready for the "old man" image of the XJ, but then I suppose the S looks even more "old man" than the X358 :D

Seriously go and drive one, i hate diesels but i was impressed with that.

Also all that "old man" thing, pffft all driving a Jag shows is that you decided not to buy the usual German suspects, my son borrows mine all the time, he drives it more than me.

Well, I've already got an S-Type, so I think a move to an X358 would improve my image, lol.

How do repair costs match up?

My XJ was pretty reliable, I got caught out with the Morrisons contaminated fuel and had to have oxygen sensors replaced (about £2k) which they wouldnt pay out for. Only had the S type for 12 months and nothing really went wrong. Had the big service / chains done on both and it was comparable at £1.5k. Would assume the XJ would be more expensive than s type in general though?

XKR was a damn money pit :/

Diesel XJ no worse than a diesel S type to be honest.

Sorry to hear about your XKR woes.

How did you find Used Jags by the way, i must say i dont like that lot.

Well, thing was i bought it with low miles - but the previous owner had been long term unwell so it just wasnt being driven. Lots of things had rusted which i didnt pick up on for quite some time.

Things like brake callipers, something like front wishbone (been a while but was somethign up that end of car), big service inc chains, odd thing with stuff ender bonnet. It was constant couple of hundred here, few hundred there. Had the windscreen replaced as had chip and the rear view mirror was found to have been gluded on before where the previous widow replacement people bodged it and didnt tell owner. I didnt want a bodge so something as simple as mirror was over £100 as autolight / wipe sensors. 2x back exhaust boxes. Err cant think what else off top of head. I did like it to be mint though so kept it right up together.

Yea it can add up, im like that every little thing done properly.

Well,

Have had the car for a few days now, taken it on 1 motorway run. The brakes are not in the same league as those on the XKR or the S type SE - they seem to be improving i think it was parked up for a little while. Ride is nice, little hard for "jag" but i drive a new XF and it felt hard. Umm steering very different, feel a lot more through wheel with it being 4wd but its responsive. Very smooth drive as you would expect from a jag. Not massivly fast (2.5 sport), my S type 2.7SE D seemed faster with the 2 turbos. It's quite thirsty, was driving at "motorway speeds" and it was drinking it, for further commutes ill drop a few mph and keep rev's about 2.75. Seats are nice, aircon nice and cold. Rest of interior is more Ford than Jag.
