hey guys, i posted in the CPU section and thought i may aswell post here just since i need all the help that i can!

basic story is got 2600k, asus p8p67 pro, h50 with 2 vipers in push pull, haf x, 8gb corsair vengeance ram!

built it, overclocked it to 4.5, and was getting 70s on 100% load and 34-38 degrees idle, that was on the 0402 bios with 45 multi and everything else default (vcore on auto) , i updated it to 1053 BIOS, and set multi to 42, and vcore to 1.25 now and temps have gone up to 36-40 idle and between 66-69 on full load with prime on for 2 mins

so what could it be, since i know these are high especially for only a 4.2 overclock! and sandy bridge is meant to run cool!

Could just be your h50 still waiting to settle down tbh. When I first put my H50 in my system with a Q6700 my idle temps were 42-41-39-39 and a week later they were 36/35/36/35.

hmm really? i didnt think they were meant to go that high.. especially only at 4.2 with 1.25 volts

I'd say that might be a little high. I'm running at 1.35v 4.5ghz on a Megahalems Rev B with one Akasa Viper and my idle is fluttering around 33c and my 2 minute prime small fft prime is 52-65c. That temp range i cna imagine is due to me putting too much TIM on.

When you are running prime what does CPUZ and Core temp read as your voltages? For me even though my vcore is 1.35 core temp says 1.3611v and CPUz says 1.352v

And thats not even got really going yet. Hmm.. It does seem that you may have misfitted your H50. Have you got any pics of it in situ?

From your pic. I note the rotation angle of the H50 head. In the photo view mine has the word Corsair perfectly level (horizontal). The block is not square underneath and I suspect it is catching on part of the CPU socket assembly.

Loosen it off and swivel it round.

okay ill try that as soon as ive finished installing black ops!

ermm well i assumed it was right but the arrows are like this

-> [] <- is that wrong? xD

The fans should both be blowing in the same direction. IE, out of the back of the case.

That there looks like you have them both blowing into the heatsink. That would explain it all.

EDIT: looking at the pic it actually makes it even more likely to b the case as the power wires are on different sides. If both are blowing in the same direction then the power wires would both be in the same place.

H50's are rubbish IMO, I was getting into the 80s with Prime @4Ghz 1.275 Vcore and with Push/pull set up 2000rpm fans. Tried arctic silver tim and OCZ freeze (turns out the pre applied Shin etsu stuff was just as good as the OCZ) and no matter of configuring would bring down those temps. Now got a Thermaltake Frio, fans on medium push/pull and my temps stay in the low 70's when priming @ 4.2 1.35 v core. You do the math!.

Anyway Id suggest keeping your OC low on the H50 it simply cannot cope. I would say Get the Frio if your on a budget every bit worth the 40 quid. If no get the Noctua DH14.

Hope this helps a bit

:| wow i feel stupid.. okay to add to the stupidity should it be -> [] -> or <- [] <- ?

thanks !

Either will bring your temps down. But ideally you want it blowing out of the back of your case. So the arrows should be pointing to the back.
