i5-2500K
P67 Motherboard
8GB DDR3

That'll probably be ~£300, and you'll get some stonking performance out of it, and probably be able to easily overclock to ~4.x GHz

I would do what Stulid says TBH!

Also, sorting out the air flow in your case properly can help a lot. You can do this by simply changing the orientation of the fans.

Well lets say i go for an i7 . what would you recomend

You could get a Phenom II X6 though and it the extra cores would be great for VMs.

Many AM2+ motherboards will work fine with the processor and there are 95W versions too which would run cooler than what you have ATM.

Do as the lads say new tim MX4, give case, mobo, etc, a good clean with a 2" brush then a blast with a air duster overclock it. Save some more dosh up and treat your self to a really good PC, i7, SSD, GPU of your choice something that will last another few year.
