Hi All

I need suggestion to decide whether should I buy 23 / 24 inch monitor

Recently upgrade my PC and need new monitor . Rig spec: i7-950, Radeon 6870. Atm, I'm using 16' wide monitor

Mainly use for gaming, surfing, bit of Photoshop and office

I have couple Q's on before decide which monitor should I buy

-Should I get 23 or 24 inch? Consider or 24 has 16:10 aspect ratio and 1920x1200 res, is that would make any significant diff compare with 23 inch which have 16:9 ratio and 1920x1080 res?

-Both are IPS panel, however some said that 23u11 is E-IPS and 24u10 is S-IPS. is it worth of getting S-IPS over E-IPS consider big gap of price between u2311 and u2410?

Any comments and suggestion would greatly appreciate!! Sorry if its like noob q's

Also if there others monitor suggestion are more than welcome

Regards

I bought the u2311H before Christmas instead of the u2410 because I didn't the extras in the u2410 were worth paying double the price.

The 2311 is an excellent monitor and I don't regret purchasing it. Its up to you to decide if the extras in the 2410 are worth paying the extra.

man i am in the exact same situation... i mean you can get 2x u2311's for the price of one u2410 but, i read the u2311 has newer IPS technology and has a faster response time. The only thing thats stoppin me is the u2410 has the 1920x1200 resolution. Please correct me if any of this info is inaccurate

Many Thanks
Jonathan

The U2410 felt like a more responsive monitor from what I've tested, for whatever reason. It has a lower rated grey to grey response time and similarly low input lag to the U2311. Don't dwell on the technicalities though - the most significant difference with the U2410 actually lies in the fact that it uses a higher end panel and backlight. The colour gamut is much broader but depending on your uses and perspective this could be a good or bad thing. It is a shame the price difference is so significant, I agree.

So you lose 120 vertical pixels if you go with the u23. So what? You won't notice the difference, and if anything it'll slightly improve your fps in games!
You might not notice it for gaming, but you will most definitely notice it for Photoshop and Office, which were mentioned by the OP as being amongst the intended uses.

I haven't missed the extra pixels - I have the 2407WFP in the office which is 1900 x 1200 and the U2311 at home. I don't find a switching between the two a problem. But I appreciate everyone is different so the OP needs to be sure he's ok it.

now the u2410 is back down to £465 I would say go for the U2410 as you get the broader colour spectrum (great for photoshop)

I've had the u2311h for a couple of weeks now and I have to say it's been brilliant overall. I bought it to replace a Samsung T220 TN panel.

Main usage has been gaming (WoW/FPS). Web browsing is excellent on this monitor. I don't edit in Photoshop profesionally so I can't comment on that.

Compared to the u24 i'd say it would come down to whether you need the wide gamut colour and 1920x1200 resolution vs the u2311's standard gamut+1920x1080 resolution.

The price difference is pretty considerable too, even after the 24 has gone down a bit. I paid £220 from a competitor (plus quidco cashback) for my u2311h.

I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever one you choose to be honest.

For 1920 x 1200 vs 1920 x 1080 - if you feel like you need more vertical space

By moving the start bar in Windows 7 to the side of the screen (and auto hide it in my case), it feels like there is more vertical space to play in - which is what I'd recommend for the u2311,

BTW isn't the U2410 due to be replaced soon by the U2412?

But he said that it would be mainly for gaming, and only a bit for office and photoshop. That is what I based my advice on. I assumed that doing a 'bit' of photoshop meant that he wasn't too seriously into professional editing, and therefore the u23 would suffice :)

Unless you're doing a lot of graphical work I can't really see the 2410 being worth the extra money. I'm also trying to choose between them and even though I do a lot of graphical work I'm still finding it hard to justify the 2410 being so much more expensive.

Fair enough. :)

I suppose the Dells aren't the only options available in any case, the HP ZR24W and LP2475W might also be worth considering as they're both a fair bit cheaper than the U2410 (assuming you can find somewhere that has them in stock).

Having said that, the OP seems to have disappeared after a single post, so maybe he's already got himself sorted.:)

Sorry just, just come back from holiday.

Thanks all for the response. I might decide to get 24 inch , however might to hold my purchase until the price drop. I can't justify to buy on current price

Anyways, thanks again for all suggestion given

Cheers
