Here's the Top Thirty as voted for by the writers of the mag. It's all subjective of course but it's always interesting to see what the so called experts believe constitutes a great game.

  1. Deus Ex
  2. World Of Warcraft
  3. The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion
  4. Team Fortress 2
  5. Half-Life 2
  6. Rome:Total War
  7. Diablo 2
  8. Portal
  9. Starcraft 2
  10. Ultima VII
  11. Company Of Heroes Online
  12. UFO-Enemy Unknown
  13. Arma 2
  14. Half-Life
  15. Left 4 Dead
  16. Sid Meiers's Civilization IV
  17. Minecraft
  18. Counterstrike
  19. Planescape Torment
  20. Half-Life Episode 2
  21. Hitman: Blood Money
  22. The Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind
  23. Starsiege:Tribes
  24. Unreal Tournament
  25. Mass Effect
  26. Age Of Empires II
  27. Fallout 3
  28. Freespace 2
  29. Supreme Commander 2
  30. System Shock 2
Not sure how many of those would be in my top 30,maybe 10,agree with Deus Ex on top though.

great list imo, deus ex def number 1.
glad rome is 6 - none of the sequels come even close to how good that game was/still is.

hitman BM 21 - again great choice.

Surprised at the inclusion of Minecraft as it's not even a finished product yet - presumably the final build would make the top 10?

I'd rather either of the Half-Lifes were in the #1 spot; I have a hard time playing Deus Ex now, the gameplay hasn't aged well at all. You could argue it's been included due to its influential blend of FPS and RPG, but then why have WoW instead of EQ, and Mass Effect instead of say, Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights?

Fallout 1 & 2 would be a lot higher than Fallout 3 for me personally. Mass Effect, Blood Money, Portal, maybe one or two others would be up there like they are.

Yeah, sooo many that didn't even make the list or are far too low...

The games that imo deserve a place in the top 30.

I miss GTA SA and VC, supcom FA > Supcom 2 pos with low crappy unit limit, I miss older games like TTD, Worms, Mohaa, Pharaoh/ceasar3, simcity 4, and more sim/strategy games, it's too much orientated at FPS and RPG's.

Haha Thief 2,loved that game,so genuinely tense and creepy, modern Stealth games just can't compete.Quite a few in there i'd pick, can't and never will see the appeal of The Sims though.

Oh man, so many to choose from. It'd take me forever to decide on my top 100. Thankfully I don't have to :)

Pretty good list. I agree with Deus Ex as number 1. Doom should be much higher, IMO. I actually really like SupCom2, but to put it above Forged Alliance....complete madness. For me, FA would be top 20 and SupCom2 would struggle to break the top 50.

Where the hell is Duke Nukem 3D - am I just not seeing it?:eek:
