Now, I know I'm young, I know I'll get nailed with insurance. I'm not expecting miracles, but I've just been looking at quotes for a 2003 1.6 Focus 5dr (as I'm looking at buying one this year) and the quotes are just staggering.

I'm currently driving a 1996 1.4 Fiesta Ghia, which is supposedly in insurance group 14. The Focus, is supposedly group 11.

Last year, my insurance was £950. The year previous was £1700, which was my first year driving. Getting quotes this year, I'm seeing £1.8k+ as a minimum. Now, is it just me or is that just...wrong. Double the cost for a car in a lower insurance band, with an extra years driving experience and no claims bonus.

Its doing my head in looking at quotes! So annoying! ....had to get that out :p

Insurance prices seem a bit mad at the moment. Last June I insured my 2000 1.6 Focus Mk1 5dr for 950 quid fully comp at 18 (19 soon after) with no NCB and having had my license for 8 months. Hoping the insurance prices will have stabilised again by the time I come to renew! The cost of driving in this country is becoming ridiculous to be honest.

....... Insurance prices wouldnt be so bad if drivers were 1. Providing their own insurance correctly and did not try to work around a system to lower cost and 2.there were more honest people who claimed for just their losses and not forwhat they think they could get.

you need to barter. My first renewal in my ST was £710, this year it went up to £880, after 4 calls I've got it down to £697.
Bearing in mind I'm a year older and a set of my points have elapsed it's mind blowing, but it's all being driven by wippy-compo claims.

I'm quite surprised a 96 fiesta is insurance group 14 tbh!

Other than being a rotting death trap, if it has the 1.4 zetec s engine in it, it will be quite quick for a ancient shopping trolly, under 10 seconds to 60, over a 110 mph top speed.

Check SwiftCover. I was pricing up cars on one of the comparison sites the other day for a 2L Mondeo and it was coming back at £670 3PFT. SwiftCover quoted me £400 for fully comp. I'll definitely be giving them a buzz when I need to swap/renew.

Edit: Also add parents to the policy if you can, adding mine drove it down a fair bit.

Not sure what happened with my renewal this year pretty sure ive flooked it cheaper.

Got a letter through the post saying its gone up from £600 to £680. Abit annoying really but possibly to be expected.

After a confused.com in my current address in Teesside I found a cheaper quote for £530 a year. Sweet!

Then out of curiousity I put the address of where I will be moving to in afew weeks (Kingston area) and to my supprise there was 1 at £300 a year! the rest were like £600+

Rang my current insurer and they told me that the Kingston address was a higher risk area than Teesside and my insurance would rise if I used that...Cancelled my renewal with them and jumped onto the cheaper one :D
