Connecting PC to TV

DVI to HDMI adapter and HDMI lead came today. Can get a picture on the TV no problem now. :)

Can't get sound through the TV speakers without a buzzing sound though!

EDIT: Only seem to get the buzzing from the TV speakers if the V+ box is plugged in. Any advice? :(

that cable doesn't carry sound

I'm actually in the same boat.

I believe there is a cable you need to plug in that goes from your graphics card to your motherboard.....

Oh no I've done that. I've put a 3.5mm jack from PC to PC and can get sound. I just get a static buzz from the PC whenever the V+ box is also plugged in.

I've googled it and I think it's 'Ground loop'? I've bought an isolator anyway to see if it will prevent the buzz.

any chance you could show me pic or link me a pic of what that cable looks like please?

Sorry, I meant PC to TV and I get the buzz from the TV speakers once on the PC source.

It's one of these. My TV has 3.5mm input, where as most tend to have the RCA inputs.

Nope, just the HDMI lead from PC(DVI out with adapter) to TV(HDMI in) to get picture. Then the 3.5mm cable from PC to TV for sound.

Still waiting for my isolator to come, really hope it sorts this buzzing problem out. :(

mmm didn't you put a cable between your graphics card and motherboard?
The HD2600XT has a built-in HD sound device, it doesn't need feeding an audio signal from eleswhere.

The trouble is, it needs a specific (ATI-designed) DVI-HDMI adapter to output the audio signal over the HDMI lead, a standard one won't do - IIRC some cards came with the dongle bundled, but more often they didn't. It seems you can still get them from a well-known auction site (search for "ATI DVI HDMI adapter", unsurprisingly), but whether or not they work properly I couldn't say. I guess it's only a few quid to find out. :)

thanks sorry for hijacking thread but I got a 9800 pro (nvidia) and I've just connected hdmi to dvi cable to the tv.

i see picture yes but no sound

not really keen of messing around with mobo but if I were to put 3.5mm cable like the op has from tv pc - would the sound work or would I get the same problem as op?

on the tv i see the 3.5mm input cable something like hdmi in

It should work, but it will be an analogue signal and so you might get interference, depending on the length of the cable, emissions from neighbouring electrical gear and so on. Suck it and see is probably your best bet.
