Hi,

So im currently running EP35-DS3, Q6600 & 9800 GTX+.

I am tempted to get another 9800 as ive seen two at not such an expensive price, but i am struggling to find a Mobo that will work with the spec i want. a lot less about nowadays than when i originally got the setup. Also i need it to be a good overclocker.

Thanks a lot

Jon

nvidia chipsets for LGA775 were pretty bad with quads i believe.

would you not be better off with a single more recent card if your hsppy with your current boards OC ability

Your choice is limited to nforce 680i/780i/790i, the former two arent great q6600 overclockers, the latter is a good clocking board but requires ddr3.

The 680i isn't great with q6600s. Though I did get a stable 3.2 out of mine (just ordered SB), I'd go with a 790 if you want to oc.

I had the same dilemma last year. In the end I decided it wasn't possible to find a motherboard that would do SLI with a 775 quad at the right price. I put the money towards a big CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade, and I'm glad I did.

If you can get your hands on one,...the GA-X38-DQ6 would take some beating, I'm just about to retire mine after 3 years of 24/7 faithful service and yes it's DDR2 and 775.
I ran mine with water with a Q6600-GO stepping @ 3.3 and it never missed a beat!, I saw one on fleabay recently go for a song so there still out there. Good option if you just want to folk out for a mobo only that clocks rather well.

Thanks mate, Ill be looking into that one :D

I have the X48T-DQ6 which is crossfire but i use an Nvidia GTX295 which is a dual chip card giving you a sort of SLi effect.

Why not consider something like this if you can get one.

Im wondering where all this "680i isnt great with quads" came from?

My 680i can get my cpu to 3.6ghz on air. All being its not a safe temp but good for benches. I keep it at 3.2ghz 24/7.

there were 2 versions of the 680i the AR and the A1. The AR were first released and had issues with quads. Evga offered swap outs for AR boards. Mine is a A1 board which was swapped with my AR board. Since then the board has been a trooper and done very well.

To sum up if you want SLI on a 775 mainboard its the nforce series you want. If you choose a 680i get the A1 revision.

Asus P5N-T or Striker II Formula. First one overclocks a bit better. Both are very picky regarding to memory stick that can be used with, so read QVL first. If you buy one, first thing to do is to remove cooling system (whole), remove old thermal pasta and apply new one (like Zalman STG-2 or AS5) because they suffer overheating issues very often.
