HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Ha. I'm aiming for 1000 hours uptime, and seeing as it's as nippy now as it ever is then I shouldn't have any trouble getting there. My only worry is if the battery dies and I'm not near a charger.

Does anyone know if turning it off (with the fast boot etc, so essentially on standby) resets the uptime?

Just switched my phone off with fast boot enabled for 8 mins and can confirm the uptime was not reset - currently 505hrs on mine

Right, what's the deal with warranty on these if bought from eBay or the like? If a fault occurs, do you just deal direct with HTC?

is there any issues posting links that direct or have anything to do with roms here, is it breaking any rules or are they fine?

No, its fine as all the code is open source.

cool thanks.

Could you be kind enough to post the links you used to do this as I am looking into doing the same thing.

Thanks :)

heres the pages i used, the first is using a different image, don't bother downloading there's, get the one from the second link and just follow the guide going through all the links they provide explaining each task, all the files are provided in the links for you on each step

taking into consideration that there are inherent risks with anything like this, read, read and read again as its all at your own risk. that being said i found it a complete doddle and very rewarding.

FIRST LINK how to guide
SECOND LINK gingerbread rom i used with the how to in link one
THIRD LINK this is for the FULL_WIPE.zip you can use before installing the 2.3 rom to eliminate some issues people have found

LINK 4 this is an added step for after step one of the guide

the bulk of the information your going to need is in link 1, Link 4 i did after step 1 of the guide, link 3 is an added step. in the guide in link 1 do step 6 using the FULL_WIPE.zip from link 3, when its finished repeat step 6 with the rom zip from link 2, obviously you need to put both these files on the sd card before you start as youl be flashing one after the other without a reboot.

hope that helps, i found it pretty straight foreword even though i had to hunt around for the info in link 3, the rom in link 1 didn't seem to function 100% though i think my wifi issues came down to me not rebooting after the installs firs boot but im pretty sure the rom in link 2 is newer.

ok added link four, soff /hboot so the guide is as follows

1. Make sure your device is rooted. In case it isn’t, follow our guide on how to root HTC Desire HD.
> go to link 4 and follow the steps there. theres a readme in the zip, when you extract the full-wipe folder get this too and read
2. Download the ROM from the link given below(dont, use the rom form link 2) and copy it to the root of your SD card. [also copy the file from link 3]
3. Power your phone off and reboot it in recovery.
4. To backup your existing ROM, apps and data, take a nandroid backup.
dont do step 5, use step 6 with the full wipe.zip and not the gingerbread rom, this will erase all the cache and data properly, sd card untouched.
5. Use the main recovery menu to wipe all data and cache. Then go to the advanced menu and wipe dalvik cache.
6. Get back to the main recovery menu and select ‘install zip from sd card’. Select the ROM that you copied to your SD card in step 2, and wait patiently while it is flashed to your phone.
7. Once the flashing is done, reboot your phone

there, abit mashed up but ive tryed to make some sense of what i found, maybe someone else has a better guuide but this is what i used.

ive took all the guides and spliced one easier to follow one together, what i posted before gave me a headache and i wrote it :D

1. Make sure your device is rooted.
* The first step is to launch Market on your HTC Desire HD.
* Once you are in Market, search for VISIONary and install the app.
* Once you are through installation, you will see a yellow VISIONary triangular app icon on home screen.
* Now launch the VISIONary app, temproot and then hit attempt permaroot. the device
should restart, disable temproot in visionary and reeboot you should have permaroot. to check download
terminal emulator from the market, enter su in the input, after you hit enter you should see #, if you do yoour rooted

2. Download "Android Terminal Emulator" from market, if you didn't do so already.
2a. download the .zip from LINK 1 and extract the DHD-smart folder to the root of your SD rename it to DHD.
2b. Open Android Terminal Emulator and enter the following:

su -hit enter-

-then-

(Please be aware that You have to type "sh" in front of command)
sh /sdcard/DHD/check -hit enter-

If everything went OK type

sh /sdcard/DHD/backup

If this also went OK proceed with

sh /sdcard/DHD/hboot
This command will install engineering hboot which have S-Off turned off.

3. Install custom recovery image

3b. Run android market app on Your DHD and download and install ROM Manager app from market.
3c. Download and install ROM manager.
3d. Run ROM manager and select first option (Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery).
3e. Wait until ROM Manager say's that installation went successfully (Current version of ClockWorkMod is 2.5.1.3)
3f. After installation tap in Rom manager option Reboot into Recovery to test that everything went well.
3g. DHD should reboot in clockwork recovery manager.

4a. download the ud-cm7-RC0-DHD-PNK12b.zip rom from LINK 2 dont unzip just copy to the root of your sd card, make a note of the name.
4b. download the FULL WIPE from LINK 3, dont unzip, move the file to the root of your sd card

5. go to rom manager and select reebot into recovery mode
6. To backup your existing ROM, apps and data, take a nandroid backup, use the volume down key to move to the backup & restore and hit the power button, select back-up and wait for back-up to complete.
7. go back to the main menu again and select ‘install zip from sd card’ select 'choose zip form sdcard' Select the FULL-WIPE-1.2.Zip that you copied to your SD card in step 4b, and wait patiently while it is flashed to your phone.
8. now your phone has been clean wiped, Get back to the main recovery menu and select ‘install zip from sd card’ then 'choose zip form sdcard'. Select the gingerbread ROM you made a not of earlier that you copied to your SD card in step 4a, and wait patiently while it is flashed to your phone.
9. Once the flashing is done, reboot your phone

you will need to reebot once more before wifi works.

hiya

here it is....

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295

you just flash from pc when in bootloader. best one I think from reading about for android 2.3 is -

4th January 2011: Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF - HTC WWE 1.72.405.3 R2

it doesn't effect the OS at all, just upgrades the radio part of the rom, since updating I think batt life is a bit better but signal strength seems a lot better

cheers for that i appreciate. i had noticed signal was a little flakey on mine, the odd time it dropped the 3g connection, when in the market downloading bits and bobs id get an error saying the connection to the server had been lost

Quick question guys. I see some of you are on the 2.3 ROM's.

Say I flashed to 2.3, and then updated and like the current update it removed the Radio S-OFF. Would the ROM still function? I assume it will as it's already been flashed.

Stumped on the first hurdle, when I go to market place and search for “VISIONary” it cannot find the app you are talking about?

Can you please confirm that it is still on the market?

Thanks again in advance.

I'm being driven insane by a problem with Facebook, Facebook for Sense and a Google contact. Linked and syncd, number shows in the contact as +44, yet whenever I try to send a reply to a text message it always defaults to the Facebook 44 and faills meaning I have to forward the message to the correct number.

Any ideas?

Hi

Yeah it was pulled from the market sometime last year.... you can install it manually though here

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-hd-desirehd-modaco-com/320722/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/

You just dump the file on your sd card and run it on the phone, if I remember rightly

^^ you need an app from the market called easy installer, its free and will install the apk file from your sd card

should have remembered that, got me too lol sorry.

Ok guys, complete Android n00b here so please go easy.....
I've just this very day got myself a DHD (moving on from my trusty nokia 5800), it's on charge and I'm resisting the temptation to play with it so far.... I'm looking for some advice as reading through all the posts can get a bit overwhelming.
1. Is rooting my fone really a MUST??
2. Looking through the list of Apps, hows this list for a start??
App Monster, Netcounter, Advanced Task Killer, Twidroid & Launcher Pro
3. Is there anything I should do straight off the bat to improve batt. life???

I am going to play with it and try and make it my own but any advice or recommendations would be greatly welcomed. Cheers

I'm starting to really have concerns with the camera on my DHD. Basically any sort of picture that I take that is in daylight appears slightly blured towards 1 or 2 of the corners and it can ruin the whole photo. Any photo that I take say in the dark and it activates the flash - the photo taken lookds absolutely crystal clear and sharp and no bluryness is present at all!

Does anyone else suffer from this problem with their DHD and is their anything else I could try? I have googled and from reading on another forum, it suggested to turn the auto white balance off which I did and also lower the sharpness to -2 but non of these still worked.

On another note I am seriously considering rooting my DHD too but I am sort of a bit of a noob when it comes to rooting as well like the same as the guy above.

Edit - here is a link to a photo that I took earlier on today if anyone is interested in looking to see what I mean. As you can see towards the left of the photo is fairly blurred.

Thanks all - Liam

1. Not at all a MUST, unless you have serious beef with some specific part of it
2. Depends what you want it to do, and what you want it to look like :) For me, the official twitter client was better than all the rest (I tried peep, twidroid, touiter or whatever, tweetdeck and a couple others I forget the names of), but i'm in love with Launcher Pro. I also use the "ES" task killer and associated file manager, instead of Advanced Task Killer. And "3g Watchdog" for monitoring mobil£ int£rn£ts. Dunno what App Monster is, but AppBrain is a thing which sits on top of the app market and lets you search on your pc and sync app choices to your phone, which is ace.
3. The biggest drains are the screen and the 3G radio. Set the screen to auto brightness and get to grips with sync frequencies of apps.
