HAF X Case speaker

There's usually a header on the motherboard, next to where the front panel connectors go, where you can connect this.

For example, if you try to start the system without a GPU or RAM or something, the motherboard will beep a for a certain length of time or number of times. The motherboard manual will often tell you which sequence of beeps means what, and what has gone wrong.

The internal speaker is used for:
POST error codes (detailed in the motherboard manual)
Fan fail warnings (if turned on in BIOS)
Some other errors during use (such as blue screens and stuck keys)

i know you get error beeps from the motherboard anyway so really this is just a louder beep from the speaker.
I did wonder what it was for.
mmm where did i throw it now.

Not all motherboards have a built-in speaker, some have a 2-pin connection like the power/reset switches from the case and down in the same cluster of pins in fact...

For the boards that don't have the speaker, there's the case speaker :)

Back in the day there was an app for Win 3.1 that would turn the POST speaker into a very basic onboard sound device!
