New build, incredibly high pitched loud noise coming from it as soon as i turn it on. haven't let it be on for more then 5 seconds as i have turn it off because it would wake everyone up.

what could it be? i thought the maybe case speaker was dodgy so i took it out but no change. im wary of turning it on again in case it's something damaging but im clearly going to have to so i can isolate wtf is doing it.
I'll start by disconnecting the case fans, is it ok to disconnect the graphics card and turn the machine on?

My build:
2500k
corsair hx750
HIS 6950
NZXT phantom

disconnect everything except the cpu, mobo, and ram. Make sure only the 24pin and 8 pin cpu connector is connected. Disconnect all sata cables etc.

Turn it back on, see how you get on.

Does the computer post?

could i leave the graphics card in and just disconnect the power cables?

if your mobo supports onboard graphics, then disconnect the graphics card... unfortunately you will need to take it out... don't turn on the system with it connected into mobo without power connectors.

post the full spec of your rig, it's easier for people to help and give advice.

One long alarm usually means a video card not seated correctly or not powered up,If your careless with static when building, you may have murdered it, pull it out and boot, if the noise is gone, start looking at how you installed the card, sometimes they take a little bit of a push and wiggle to make sure there firmly seated

I remember this happened to me years ago when I installed my first gpu with a pci-e connector from the psu. The alarm went off and i freaked out.

The noise he described doesn't sound like the video card alarm however.
