The Current Government

Increasing taxes is good way to make everyone hate the government. I don't see the point it is going to produce an extra £13 billion, big deal. That is barely a dent and will probably just cover the interest for the year. But that will seriously impact on growth and just increase poverty. It seems the central planners have no idea what they are doing, they work on incorrect premises and are corrupt to the core. The very nature of the government has turned in to a mammoth self replicating beast that no one can scale back. It is only going to get worse until we move away from this centralised government and high taxes and "managed" economy.

I'm far happier with this government than the previous one, or indeed the likely behaviour of a Tory majority government.

Are there things I would like to see them do differently? Yes, but so far, I'm not hating them.

Really?

Given that "the poor" are eligible for all kinds of funding (housing benefit, for one), and that they pay miniscule amounts of tax anyway (someone earning £10000 pa pays only a few hundred in tax, whereas someone earning £30000 pays nearly £5000 in income tax alone).

The poor contribute less to society, both in terms of the jobs they do and the amount of taxes they pay, so can you please explain how they are "footing the bill"?

It is quite amusing in some ways, the more your contributions are the less you get back.

Where as if you stay at home all day and watch Jeremy Kyle, the Government throws money at you.

Thats were this Government will hopefully stop all of that!

Im happy with them so far easily doing a better job than labour. The problem is all politicians are the same, they all lie so I am sure there will be plenty more drama to come. I hope they can stay in longer than one sitting to get things back on track!

Definitely yes. As last this country has some people to sort it out, cutting out one sore at a time.

Sorry but ROFL in the last 8 months they have done more harm than good, whilst looking after the rich bankers, I'm not going to get into politics cos most of ocuk are right wing fanboys, Cameron just wants to out do thatcher!

Can i just ask - why are supporters of the tories against benefit fraud, but not against tax avoidance? It all amounts to the same thing, people using our money for unjust things. You're prepared to potentially make people suffer to get some of it back, but when it comes to the serious amounts that could make a difference and will still leave the people in question with far too much money anyway you think that's okay?

Thatcher - The last great Prime Minister.

"When Margaret wanted to redecorate the study in no 10 she paid for it herself. She always paid cash and never signed the bill in the members dining room and many of her colleagues who did so were given stern lectures on the dangers of debt and credit..

She changed the way people thought about wealth creation, enterprise and the role of the state. Part of her legacy was the destruction of socialism and the creation of New Labour. Today we are back to the 70s in a Britain on the brink of bankruptcy thanks to the meddling excesses of Gordon Brown, the irresponsibility of some bankers and the searing incompetence of the regulators and monetary authorities here and in the United States. Old Labour is back. Margaret’s fixed ropes of sound money, living within our means, controlling public expenditure and smaller Government to release the enterprise of the British people are still in place."

So that's her legacy? New Labour? Socialism is still alive and well, but if you mean in the Labour party, you think a value that could actually lead to a better life and equality for all is a good thing?

Old Labour is not back, Cameron's a t***, Clegg's a liar but i'm tempted to say that Ed's the worst because he has no personality what so ever.

I think it would be un-fair to speculate personally.

I don't like the changes, but Labour would have had to do something very similar, the only difference is they very wittingly held back any changes and now it looks like it's all the Conservative's fault.

Unfortunately the general public have no patience and no memory

Indeed. Some of us have memories long enough to remember the last Tory Government:
An odious, pompous, sanctimonious group of chinless and spineless numpties (and no, I hated Blair and Brown et al)

The last party leader in this country with any honesty and integrity was the late lamented John Smith :(

very, surprised me really but they have shown they are not afraid to take the tough decisiosn that were needed

Yup, more people need to understand that sometimes things need to get worse before they get better. Best thing that's happened to this country for over a decade.

Why should anyone pay more than they are legally obliged too?
