I've seen it pop up on here a few times but still doesn't stop it being amazing!

I wonder if they ever would make a 2.8 one? That would be huge!

I'm semi suprised they didn't put a spotting scope on the side of it...

There was a good article linked a couple of years ago about someone from Sports Illustrated (I think) using one as part of his job. He mentioned that it takes a lot of forethought in where to shoot from and also that haze is a major issue when using it, even on cool days.

No IS as it was introduced in 1994 and probably hasn't been updated since.

This is Nikon's equivalent. I know someone who used one for surveillance in Northern Ireland so that gives an idea of where they're really used. The white oil-drum in the second photo is the 2000mm f11 mirror lens.

I'm not longing for one.

It is a whole heap of extra inconvenience and cash over the 800 for 1.5x extra reach.

And there is no IS. That's a big omission at that length.

And I've never seen one on a Wimberley - I wouldn't want to use it without a gimbal.

And you're going to have a hard time finding your subject.

And the atmospheric distortion and haze makes most shots very dull and not very sharp. Even at 600mm people can start to have problems.

A more practical option for most people is a 600 f/4 + 1.4 TC on a crop body.

Wiki: There are no more than 20 in existence

Unlikely that we'll ever see any shots from them, given most are owned as collection items

I see your 1200mm, and raise you a 1700mm f4 carl zeiss lens;

And yes, that is a Hasselblad balanced on the end there. :cool:

Actually you probably have without realising. Last I heard two were owned and used by Sports Illustrated, therefore probably published in lots of magazines and newspapers.:)
