Wigan > Real Madrid, this aint 5 star football, I was playing a lad with wolves, on fifa none of this 5 star crap.

Saying that no keeper would have saved N'Zogbia curler, I sent the lad I beat twice 2-0 first game a friendly message, he had a rematch and beat him 3-1 and he said yeah "insomnia goal was class"

sigh

ok, dont see what the team has to do with it, we were talking about 1 specific goal

anyway havent played you in a while, challenge me some time on XBL :D

Online feels very scripted, like momentum has a massive influence on whether shots go in.

Headed goals are just hilariously easy. Still trumps pes I guess though.

This is probably very late for the whole 'Rubberband / Handicap / Momentum AI VS. Not' debate, but I had a poke around and discovered the following:

Why FIFA wouldn't have 'momentum' AI:
EA have explicitly stated this is not the case in FIFA 09, 10, and 11 following complaints, and apparantly paid for an expensive audit of the game's code that came up with nothing about these issues (this happened just before the release of FIFA 10).

Why FIFA would have 'momentum' AI:
In the following thread on the UK forum of EA (link), a couple of dedicated (programmer) fans discuss the problem and eventually draw in a couple of developers.

The following comment is made by a developer in the thread:
David Rutter (EA) said:
There honestly is no momentum system as you describe in FIFA 09.
(Note the use of weasel words.)

In the same thread, a guide written by EA mentions the following:
Romily Broad (EA) said:
Football is a game of momentum, and FIFA 09 captures this perfectly! If you give up an important goal, beware as the onslaught may be forthcoming. When the momentum shifts away from you in the game, your players are slower, they make more passing/trapping mistakes, and they are easier to knock off the ball.
Several times we have seen a comfortable 2-0 game turn into a 3-2 defeat as the CPU goes on a 5 minute tear. When you sense the momentum begin to shift away from your team, slow down the pace of the game and work possession. Make safe passes and try to avoid challenges with physical players. After a few minutes, you’ll even things out and can begin to re-establish your game plan. Conversely, if you score a backbreaker of a goal and sense the winds of change are blowing, then you might want to turn up the pressure. Shift to a pressing mentality and try to force your opponent into another mistake and a cheap turnover goal.

The feeling I also got from that thread is that if there a momentum problem in the game, it is less linked to 'You are the smaller team, 50% luck bonus to you' thinking from the AI and more to pressing/aggression tactics not only benefitting the players using them, but strangely also making the opposing team more sluggish.

Sort of like making Messi an unreal player in-game, but also giving defenders playing against him handicaps to reflect that fact even more.

All in all, no conclusions, but there's a case to be made.

anyone been playing ultimate team? i am addicted

my team is

Cesar

lahm vidic rio ashley cole

robben sniejer shwienstieger nani

Fabiano Pato

i have aguero and higuin on bench with nilmar, giggs, samuel and a few others,I have spent a obscene abount on gamer points on cards, its like beeing at school again and spending all your dinner money on footy stickers

5* teams are the most fun to play with :)

constant ridiculous blocks by defenders , ridiculous shots by strikers , outrageous long passes from midfield , no mistakes , same types of goals in every game. theres nothing football like about it. its comparable to a game of chess .

3 - 4 star teams make for a far better experience with a hell of a lot more variety imo

I just started this after realising it was free the other night. My plan is to build a team without spending any gamerpoints on buying packs. All my players must come from coins earned through winning games and trading.

It's going to take ages though, so tempted to splash out on a couple of packs just to get going. Currently got about 2,500 coins with about 10,000 coins worth of players to sell.

Aiming to boost this by trading a lot in the next few days. Got any good doubles or cards you don't need?

Guys I take it buying this game second hand is pointless as you'll need to spent 800ms points on a new Online sub for the game?

Or is there a way round this?

Watched this video last night

http://www.fifa.com/interactiveworldcup/video/video=1367986/index.html

Cant believe who the 2010 winner got to play FIFA with :D and met the best player in the world!

Shame the FIWC is on PS3 online, but it would be very hard to get a top 2 place.

Instead Ive just looked at http://www.fifa.com/interactiveworldcup/destination/events.html and seen on 6th Feb theres live qualifiers in London so I'll deffo be going to that :D Edinburgh and Manchester have already been done, anyone happen to have gone?

FIFA11 is my primary game on my Xbox. I don't know how good I am at it, because I only ever play a few of the same people in real life, and when I go online people quit once you're 2 goals ahead :|

Would be interesting to see if anyone here would be interested in having a few games online to see how I fare :)

I tend to play with a range of 4, 4.5 and 5* teams, but avoid the big hitters like Real and Barca.
