Why is my GTX570 unable to max Crysis? (no AA)

Evening peeps :D

I bought a GTX570 a few days back and it's been rinsing pretty much every game I throw at it. I can play Metro 2033 on Max DX11 settings with no stutter and decent framerates, but I've tried both Crysis & Warhead on max settings with no AA and they both run as badly as they did on my HD5770. I'm having the exact same issues with Mafia 2.

At first I thought it might be a GPU issue but as far as I know Metro 2033 is the most demanding game out there at the moment? I can even play it in 3d with better frames than Crysis, so I'm guessing it comes down to my CPU... I'm running a C2D E6400 at 3.2GHz. Would this bottleneck my GPU enough to bring it down to 5770 performance?

Cpu is holding you back some but crysis needs sli or xfire and fast quad to run 60 fps plus at max settings imo.I get around 60 to 100 fps with crysis depending on the scene with sandy bridge at 4.5 gig and trifire to give you some idea the power this game soaks up.

Yep, your CPU is the bottleneck here. Going from a P2 550 to an i7 made the world of difference for me, even on a 5850. Now I no longer need to overclock it to max out mw2 on 8x ssaa :)

According to this and most of the benches I've seen, I should expect around 40FPS:-

But from most of the reviews I've read

You jumped on the Sandybridge wagon quickly

Theres your problem.

Cheers, I thought that might be the case but I wasn't sure how CPU intensive Crysis is... does Mafia 2 rely a lot on the CPU as well?

Mafia 2 is only really CPU intensive when you have PhysX on, but as you have a 570 that shouldn't be a problem ;)

It ran a lot better than Crysis on my 550 anyway, without PhysX enabled :)

And that's on Gamer settings! I was under the impression Crysis was no longer useful for benchmarking... dunno where the hell I got that idea from lol

The only reason it's not used very much for benchmarks any more is that it's less indicative of a GPU's performance - it's really badly coded, same with metro and gta4, hence why they all run slowly, although at least metro and Crysis have decent graphics :)

Weird... It's really choppy for me and that's with PhysX on Medium

Ahh I see, I know all about GTA 4

I'm pretty impressed with Metro's performance though, I expected it to take quite a hit from the DX11 goodies but it didn't touch it... I play without advanced dof though because I like being able to see what's 10ft in front of me

GTA4 has some of the best textures ever seen in a video game.
