Amazing video.

Anybody else got these type of videos? Like the Nike Inspiration, volkswagon night drive advert and halo reach? :p

Even with his horrific American accent he's great. He allowed a great many people to share in the joy and beauty of the incredible universe we live in.

If someone wants a talking point for the thread.... Should we look after the poor and disadvantaged while our entire genetic pool and infinate future generations are on a single planet which is prone to catastrophic extinction events? Should our one and only focus not be to populate at least one other solar system, above all other purposes?

Whether it's the collective purpose or not, NASA is already working on this and has been for some time. The whole nature of life is to evolve and we are evolving at a super fast rate. Going back 100 years and looking at what was available and the trend in human thought it's pretty clear. Imagine 100 years into the future, imagine how people then will see us now, they'll likely laugh at how stupid we were, spending all our time fighting over world politics instead of reaching forward.

It's only an era for us, once our era has passed the next generation will no doubt look to the skies with a bigger grasp than we have.

Definitely. Maybe =]

I'm in the middle of watching Carl Sagan's (the guy speaking) Cosmos series right now on bluray. It's sublime. Everyone should watch it.

I can't really agree on what he's saying.

20,000+ years of problem solving, inquisitiveness and natural selection in harsh winter climates is what got us towards the Vikings, Columbus, Magellan, Shackleton, Marco Polo, Drake, Hillary, Gagarin, Armstrong, etc.

Notice a common ethnicity? Of course it's all down to white privilege and racism. If Africa and India had the same privileges and education they could get to Mars in no time .

Japan MIGHT have a chance if their birth rate wasn't plumetting.

China? Maybe.

I'm not optimistic about the future of civilisation.

Loved that video, and one of the most touching narratives I've ever heard.

Got a link?
I can only find self made ones linked to Torrents.
To be honest putting Cosmos on BluRay would be a bit pointless because of what it was originally shot on.

I really hope so.

The video that those ^ thoughts are depressing though. Doubt we will see anything that great in our lifetimes. :( Wish I was born 1000 years from now. :(

This interests me, up until several hundard years ago the rest of the world was largely uneffected by the west. Why were Africa and India still stuck in the past when the west started to travel? I would say only the Chinese/Japanese back then had the oppotuntely to develop just as quickly if it weren't for polictal reasons. Indeed i consider Japan as far more advanced then any country in the west right now!

Maybe western people just had the natural ability to progess
