Hi,

Anyone had these things die on them? I must admit, I've had mine for a few years, since about a year after the 360 was released. They no longer seem to hold their charge, or refuse to be charged; as soon as I remove the play and charge cable they seem to die, despite saying they're 3/4 charged.

Anyone know if it's possible to just buy the battery pack things separately, without the charging cable?

I can't google today.

Mine were used pretty solid for 5 months, then not touched in 4. went back to them and they are useless now. They occasionally charge and hold power for an hour or two but just have to play with the lead attached!

Yes you can get just the packs on their own.

They will eventually stop charging properly, just like any other rechargeable type of battery.

Personally I use the normal AA battery packs with nimh rechargeables.

I bought a 2nd hand one that came with a battery pack and it would barely hold a charge, i find it easier to bulk buy duracells and use that to be honest, it's not going to save the environment but it does work better for me.

I had one do the same to me recently. My xbox failed to power off once the controller was fully charged which in turn ruined the battery pack, only working when connected.

Replaced it with another at Christmas.

I bought some about 2 years ago, stopped holding their charge after about a year, and these are the official MS ones

Went out and bought a 4 pack of 2000mAh duracells instead, and they are still going as strong as ever.

2 in the controller, 2 in the charger, jobs a good'un.

Quick google shows 2 highstreet places sell just the pack (ie without the cable) for £6.

I suspect the battery packs do not like being kept without use/charge for long periods of time as mine did this when I didn't use my 360 for a few months.

The ones I had were crap, didn't hold there charge for very long at all. The official ones seem to be worse than the cheap ones. Now I just use a wired pad purely because changing the packs all the time annoys me.
