Tunisia gets a new government
Lebanon gets a new government
Protests, riots and self-immolation in Algeria, Morocco and Egypt now.

They say the protests are in large part about food prices. The USA released a statement saying food prices will be going UP this year. Will there be another drought in Russia this year?

How will 2011 turn out for the middle east? Rising food and petrol prices, unemployment, etc. Imagine if Libya or Egypt got overthrown and extremists were able to fill the vacuum.

Could there be a domino affect? Would it spill over to Europe?

Sadly it's the various goverments' own doing. Corruption is rife around the world, and people are starting to get sick of it.

Of course, nothing like that would ever happen here. The British just love to moan and do nothing. ;)

good on the people of tunisia i say....they clearly had enough and acted appropriately, hopefully now whoever steps up to the plate isnt a corrupt scumbag, but any change is good change for the people imo.

food prices are always going up, its kind of what happens when more people need feeding but landmass is finite.

i think saying it will spill over is a bit too heavy handed, yes europe might see some protests/riots here and there but it wont be a big concern as its part of the yearly routine really.

the middle east isnt even worth thinking about, yeh so we might get some terror threats great - again the yearly cycle of living in the times we do. b
But nothing major is going to happen , and really it shouldnt. that whole area needs time to calm down a little, and i think even the extreme of extremists probably understand that. Western withdrawal should help ease any tension.

What I only found out this morning after hearing it on the radio is that a catalyst for uprising in Tunisia was a set of documents released by Wikileaks

I thought this was going to be another 2012 thread :(

In answer to your questions no because 2 world wars saw to it that we aren't that stupid anymore.

Some people believe that the revolution in Tunisia may spark similar uprisings in other Middle Eastern Nations. According to an article I read in Time Magazine, the day after the President was ousted Qatar lowered food prices by 5%.

Middle East unstable.

In other news, Pope is Catholic and bears **** in the woods.

(Although most of the countries mentioned aren't actually in the Middle East)

So nothing to do with a Tunisian man setting himself on fire as a protest about not being allowed to sell fruit and vegetables then?
