Basically my old five year old dell has broken, classic green light blinking and capicitator screaching. The cost of a soldering Iron and the fire risk is not worth repairing.
I am broke at the moment and the only monitor that I could really use is 40" Tv,Because I am lazy and have not tried moving the tv, do you think I could get away with using it as a monitor?Yes it is hdmi and 1080p but the problem might be that it ends up just being unbearable to use. I will be sitting about 1m away :o.

I'd say yes, it's pretty hard on the eyes. especially from 1m away!

I've used my 50" plasma on occaison (to play L4D!) and that's fine but you need to be 6-8ft away.

To use it for Windows and apps even at that range will be hard going.

I am actually using my htpc right now on a 46" from about 1m away. It might be alright if I put the brightness down, that said it seems quite hard to read stuff inless you zoom in quite a bit.
