Tyre company rip off!!

Well that's that sorted then, are there any other budget purchases you would like to warn us about (without testing) so I don't make the same mistake?

Are you actually going to post anything objective in support of these tyres or are you just going to continue skirting the issue with stupid straw men, hyperbole and cheap attempts to divert the course of discussion elsewhere?

Right. Take a breath.

We need to know 3 things:

1. What does the invoice say

2. What was actually fitted to the car

3. How much did they charge for it

It's a mobile tyre fitting company, right?
They may have turned up with the wrong tyres for reasons such as not having them in stock or something.
But if they arrived and said, 'these are not Michelin Primacy tyres but shall we fit them anyway?' we'd better hope OP's girlfriend did not say, 'Oh OK then, go ahead, I know bugger all about tyres'

My dad's old Volvo 940 Estate came with a set of "Taganka Butterfly" tyres fitted all round, they were very hard wearing but utterly useless performance wise, it did make the car hilarious to drive though, tyres screeching around bends at rediculously low speeds, drifting on roundabouts in the wet at only 15mph!, wheelspinning in 1st, 2nd & 3rd on damp roads.

I was mearly trying to suggest that he won't necessarily die or spin off into the nearest ditch as a result, thats why I was trying to ascertain his vehicle and driving style.

Great fun until I nearly shunted an Audi A4 right up the arse who decided to change lanes right in front of me on the motorway and brake on a downhill section, having the ABS go berserk and the arse end try to overtake you at 60 mph is not fun!

You don't need to be driving a GT3 Racer to make use the extra performance some decent tyres bring, all you need is some idiot to pull out on you causing you to slam the anchors on, therefore driving style is kind of irrelevant.

What about the day when it's damp or wet and you have to make an emergency stop or perform some very harsh braking? You el cheapo tyres will lost traction much, much earlier!

This, basically. I'd rather know it will stop as quick as possible when needed then save a few quid. My van only has 65bhp but still put Toyo TR-1's on the front.

I would phone up and go "Hey, I phoned and ordered some Michelin tyres, and you have fitted and charged for me another brand. Someone said they are made by Michelin and so that's OK. But then, a Mini is made by BMW, and if I ordered a 7 Series I'd expect a 7 Series and not a Mini. I'd like a refund please."

Just when you think you've heard of all the dishonest BS and dodgy foreign brands in the industry you get this.

No wonder more and more people are buying online.

That's the thing. We had a conversation about this on the phone and she called back to double check.

She knows how fussy I am when it comes to the car maintenance. I am sick of garages saying "yeah got a set of Pirelli's" that turn out to be Hankooks. They think they can call them that because Pirelli has a tiny stake in the company.

Now we have Kormorans masquerading as Michelins.

My major problem is whatever the brand they were meant to be mid-range. Their website clearly has them listed as budget.

Of course those tires they have gave you are Mitchelins. I have some on my Ferrari below.

Nice, that pretty much sums up the argument i'd present to the tyre fitters. As said i'd check with the missus and see if the said they were infact going to fit the cheaper tyres and if that was ok. If not then then demand removal of those tyres and fitting of the Premacys at the price quoted, threatening trading standards etc.

Emailed them today and got a very shirty email back.

"kormoran tyres are made and sold by Michelin and purchased by us through their website, not a 3rd party we have not conned or mislead you in anyway whatsoever and feel your email is highly INNACCURATE AND MISLEADING to a company that prides itself on customer satisfaction and service. The kormoran tyres were not sold as " two old stock Michelin's" as you say."

Taken the matter to trading standards as it appears that Michelin own a 90% stake in there company but ceased production of Michelin products in Poland in 2008 and these where just HGV tyres. I have emailed Michelin giving them the details of this email and the company who is distributing them claiming they are made by Michelin.

Ownership of the company that makes these crap things is irrelevant. You were told you would have Michellin brand tyres fitted, not **** tyres from a company who are owned by Michellin.

Same with Courier tyres and Pirelli, if I order Pirelli tyres, I don't expect to see a pair of Courier tyres fitted.

Whilst I accept you have been mis-sold these tyres, Kormoran tyres are manufactured by Stomil which was largely bought out by Michelin about 10 years ago to get a foothold in Eastern Europe.

Small numbers of Kormoran tyres have been imported into the UK since Michelin modernised their factory and production processes. Costco (who exclusively distributed Michelin tyres at the time) sold them for a while.

Stomil have been making high quality agricultural and trailer tyres for many years - I used to source them for my customers when I was a machinery salesman.

These won't be anything like as crap as the cheapo Far East stuff.
