does this game play like C&C series i.e lots of missions + build new base for each one or do you build a base and keep it for the entire game ?

New base every mission, but the missions can be quite long as the map expands and objectives change. It's similar to keeping your base for three or so C&C missions really.

thanks

is it worth getting the first one or going straight to SC2 ? I saw a trailer and the game looks quite captivating

FIRST!

And get the expansion too. Together they can be had for £5 at play (Supreme commander gold). The original has some problems, but the expansion makes it oh so much better. Play through the original first though if you want the plot, the three factions aoo have seperate campaigns, while in Forged Alliance its the same campaign, you just play through as the different factions, though some characters interact differently with you.

SupCom2 is barely the same game. It was completely stripped back, the maps are tiny compared with the original. The only good thing about it is some of the insane units and buildings. Like the unit cannon. Not as good as the original by a long shot.

Definitely the first one as iviv says. By far the better of the two, especially with forged alliance.

Second was very dumbed down. Had an interesting research mechanic, but it sacrificed everything that made the original uniquely amazing as a game, and the unique resource system featured by the TA/SupCom games..

Yeah it's not as good as the first, but some of the hate is unjustified IMO. number 2 is still in my top 10 best RTS's of all time

I wasn't a big fan of the first one, the main reason being that units never moved together... they always kind of split up into single file then got picked off one by one, it irritated the hell outta me.

Loved the second one, couldn't care less if it was 'dumbed down', I liked the simplicity... it actually reminds me of Starcraft 2's gameplay a lot.

Yea it was ok, but I suppose people expected something similar, if not even more ambitious than SupCom 1. Instead they got rid of the economy system in favour of a starcraft/C&C style system. Fine, it works, but isnt what made TotalA/SupCom interesting to play. It just became so much simpler. Add to that a drastically cut down unit set and inferior design on the units themselves and it just doesnt live up to the original.

Also, not a fan of Square Enix's work myself. Personal opinion though, just hope they dont bring down Deus Ex...

gazzab you can tell your troops to move in formation and it puts AA and artillery units at back and heavy hitters at the front of the formation and they all move at the same speed :)

Pretty much so, expect the cut scenes to be even more cheesier and stupid than C&C though. You will either be establishing new bases during the SP campaign or taking over damaged/crumbling ones and bringing them upto scratch. Skirmish is just the way to play though.

Avoid SC2 at all costs, as it is a totally different game. SC and it's successor Forged Alliance are probably amongst the best RTS titles I've ever played.

Really? I might just dig it out and give it another go then :D

How do I go about it?
