Some of you might have caught this thread where I was off to Sweden to record my band's debut album:

Here

Well we finally got our hands on the Final Master CD this week ... there are one or 2 tweaks to happen (the hi-hat level is coming right down!) but it's 99% done - so we have posted a small preview clip on our myspace for it!

Ascension - MySpace

Now we have a new photoshoot in the works, putting together our promo pack for labels and planning on shooting a music video in Easter with a European Tour (even if self organised!) in late summer/autumn.

Watch this space ;)

And let me know what you think of the preview!

That is cool man, not a big fan on metal stuff and I normally listen to mainstream rubbish :p but that is some sweet guitar play :p

If you are sending out digital copies for any PR/label or anything infact -

Don't attach it as an MP3, and don't do it as a Myspace link. It's the worst thing.

SoundCloud everyday of the week, if anyone sends me a SC link I'll listen to it usually, and it'll go to the top of piles because it's 100% easier. BandCamp isn't *too* bad either.

We wont be ... it'll be printed (double side of quality A4) with our bio, info, etc and mailed with the full copy of the album to the list of labels we have (over 50!)... :)

Good stuff.

Remember - make it special and personalized to each one. Otherwise it's not going to get read or listened to usually.

To get something listened to and to the top of the pile it has to stand out on first impressions to make you want to give the CD a chance.

Lots of CDs get piled through and it's hard to choose enless there's one special one that stands out etc!

we will - but thanks for the advice :)

Track 1 on the CD opens with a real bang to it (210 bpm guitar solo!) and is really catchy ... I would be really surprised if there was no interest but hey let's see what happens :)

Not just about the tunes though fella!

When your email inbox is overflowing with music and there's lots of CDs delivered weekly it's hard to listen to them all!

I usually set aside a day for it and make a pile of what to go through in what order based on time/care put into the packaging and letter.

Hope it goes well for you.

I'm thinking of doing something like spray painting the envelopes silver then spraying a stencil of our band logo on them?? With a really cool, well designed bio sheet?

Would that get near the top of your pile?

Congratulations!, I've never really liked Power Metal but good luck with your album!

you seem to be a Crossover between Dragonforce and Yngwie.

It'd grab the attention over the brown jiffys, just make sure what's inside doesn't get damaged.

For me, if a band has sent me a generic cover letter then generally it's just not worth the time. If the band haven't looked into what we do as a label, don't know any of our acts or anything like that - it's pretty bad. Sending generic letters and CDs to lots of labels is off putting.

If I get an email or letter, and the people sending it have sparked up conversation about the label, our bands etc then its great - it shows they are enthusiastic about the label and in return will be listened to!

Good luck, nice to see someone doing it themselves. :)

Another vote for soundcloud also, it's a great service, get some more tracks up on there...

Defo will be doing something along these lines... for all the extra time it takes to personalise a letter it can make the difference between engaging with someone and not ... !

And thanks for the SoundCloud heads up ... it looks like a great service - will definitely put stuff up there when it's time to release :)

Don't ignore PR companies either. They can do you a LOT of good.

This is true.

Some labels also do in house PR (nightmare!), and have PR companies that they use frequently also, or can recommend.

PR generally comes at quite a premium also.

Yeah, but if you get the right match then the cost ultimately justifies itself, I've found.

And yeah, I think we deal with two in house PR company for the site I run and the only reason we do so is because the guy who does one of them is awesome and the other is a major label who we've managed to get some cool stuff out of it. Every other one is a third party, much better deal with and they actually act like human beings.

Also true! I think it just depends on how dedicated the band are really to wanting to get the exposure and weighing it up between the outlay and reward.

Massively dedicated and we ourselves aren't money driven - I actually uploaded our last demo album to torrent sites myself for the exposure alone!

It's becoming such a thing now where there are so many free tracks, albums, songs etc all over the internet to then even find bands now within that is crazy.

It really is moving so fast, sat here daily trying to think of new ways to get the exposure outside of the usual give aways because it's such a mass minefield.

Of course, still do give aways!

Good thing with SoundCloud too is that you can set it that the track can publicly be downloaded for free too.

Same with Band Camp.
