Taking a bit of a break from this at the moment as I think I got a bit burnt out by excessive playing over xmas :p

Hopefully I'll be back on to have knife/m14/24/shotgun wars with everyone again soon.

Hehe, yeah i think i spent almost more time on this since October than i had in all the time before that. 1300 Neostead kills and 44% accuracy atm. Would be a bit higher but the game doesn't feel smooth enough sometimes and its killing my performance. I get killed because its harder to see players and i keep missing players who aren't moving ><

On a side note i wanna know how the hell Midnight manages it! I knifed him yesterday then 60 seconds later he's somehow walked around my entire team (on the hill on the last points of Isla), gone past my motion sensor and knifed me in the back without anyone seeing him!

Hi guys - I'm Having a bit of a problem I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with?

I'm running a Q6600 @2.4GHz (doesnt OC well at all) with 4gb Ram and a 5850 on Vista x64.

I've been playing BC2 fine for the last 9 months with the following settings:

1680*1050
all on high
2xAA
4xAF
DxVersion = auto (probably 10 then?),
RenderAheadLimit = 2
Bloom = true
HSAO = false
FOV = 70

I've been getting good framerates, no problems with playability, but thought I'd try out the following settings by editing the settings.ini file

1680*1050
all on high
2xAA
4xAF
DxVersion = 10
RenderAheadLimit = 0
Bloom = false
HSAO = false
FOV = 74

My framerates then dropped massively and the game felt sluggish and laggy. I reset the settings to what I had them before, but the lagginess remained. I can't get my original performance back with my original settings! I have updated my video drivers, no effect. The framerate is much better with DxVersion = 9, but I cant now set AA to anything more than 1x in the in-game menu, so I can't have been playing on Dx9 previously.

I'm stumped as to what's happened - does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Any new clans knocking about? - Yes I'll admit I'm a n00b at the game because I am used to the COD series, and on console, not PC.

But I picked up BC2 when it was on sale on steam... Would be nice to join some other people that also picked it up in the sale & are new to the game. :)

Id say by setting render ahead to 0, you've given it free reign to render as far as it can, set it back to 2 and see what that gives.

Plus id imagine by increasing fov it has more to render as well id imagine.

Hi mate i like you have only just got hold of this game, not tried it online yet but really want to so i'd like to team up with you mate to get a feel for it

I thought 0 would've been to render only the current and nothing ahead.

I gave upping my graphics a try from the god awful low settings at 30fps average i changed to DX10 with some texture/detail settings on medium, the game looks slightly more bearable and strangely enough seems to feel a bit smoother despite being about 25 fps average.

hehehe had the best knife on you i'd ever seen last night :p

Evil runs up behind me (i had no idea he was there) and slash knifed me, on my screen his knife/hand glitched though my head because it actually popped out my face and i could see it go across my screen so i panicked an knifed it auto spun 180 and stuck it in the confused evil's face :p

It wasn't a slash knife, you were both stood on the hill facing sideways, i put a shotgun slug in Defrags side who was further away then knifed you, it locked onto the back of your head and stabbed you through the face and simply didn't register then instantly you knifed me back before i could even flinch ><

Ragequit tbh.

On auto, DX will be DX11 with 5850. regarding ur drop in frames the only sense to be made is that changing the renderaheadlimit from 2 to 0 is no good. btw u should be able to do 16xAF with a 5850 at 1680 res.

Maybe check it didnt change renderaheadlimit in CCC too?

I'm running 1920*1200 on a similar setup except cpu at 3GHz, I run with 0xAA though, can't really tell th difference at that res.

Thanks guys, all very helpful suggestions.

I've changed the renderahead value back to 2 in the settings.ini, but still got poor performance. I think you might be right about the setting in CCC. I have read something about this, but I'm not sure how to check / change renderahead in CCC. Its not in the CCC GUI, is there a text file or soemthing I need to edit?

EDIT: Looks like I need to get hold of ATT and check the "flip queue size" settings

Thanks again
