Wanted to build a mainly graphics (Photoshop) machine for under £1000 and couldn’t decide between the 2400 with H67 mobo or 2500K with P67. (I’m not really intending to overclock, but wanted to keep my options open for the future).

After reading (cmndr andi’s) post on the Intel HD 2000/3000 graphics processors I think the i5 2500K is worth the extra money, but I’m still unsure about the mobo. The problem is I’ve already bought an AMD Sapphire HD6850 GPU so can't save money not buying a discrete GPU.

Is it better to go for a cheaper H67 now and replace it with Z68 (if or when) I decide to overclock, or go for P67 now? Is the 2500K onboard graphics chip up to the performance of the AMD GPU card?

what is your budget?
you say under £1000 but that could mean anything. From your post it seems like you want it cheap and cheerful .... your considering onboard gpu for instance something most if not all people here wouldnt be and especially for £1000!

Already got the GPU. Not realy interested in onboard GPU, just curious since I've read reviews saying how good the new Sanybridge GPU chips are.

if your not going to overclock the K chip is pointless to you and a waste of £40. if you already have a gpu then aslong as it is remotely half decent onboard chip gpu shouldnt be a consideration at all.

only you know if your ever going to overclock thats something we cant tell you. if the answers yes get the 2500k , if its no go the other route.

Not even close, the onboard GPU is about the same as a £35 graphics card. If it's worth buying H67 now and changing to a Z board later is up to you, for me I'd consider that a lot of hassle as it would mean reinstalling Windows...

That looks like good advice (even to me). If the graphics chip is that puny I'll use the AMD GPU and the P67. I think the K is worth the extra money to allow the possibility of overclocking. Am I right in thinking the off board GPU inhibits the onboard GPU chip on both H & P mobos?
