Ati 11.1a Hotfix coming today

Here's my Heaven benchmark comparing the 10.12 and the 11.1 Beta drivers. My system specs are in my sig.

I like the new interface of the 11.1 driver but at the end of the day it's FPS that count so it's back to 10.12 for now ...

What for 0.9 of a fps?

I hope the 5000 series doesnt get left behind...

Historically AMD do leave previous generation behind after while....

In fairness they have to as given 100% tothe 6000 series and the 5000 series and all previous series is impossible, but my 5870 is only 6months old :(

Hello mate, this is off topic but you have the same cpu and board as me and I was wondering what your voltage settings etc are ? if thats ok many thanks in advance.

Being able to turn Tesselation off in benchmarks is going to mess up a lot of results.

Here is a real benchmark I did.

Now with the new drivers you can turn tessellation off altogether.

That'l open a can of worms then..... Cheating AMD ########;)

The options yours as it is optional.

The only person "cheating" if you turned it of would be you.

Its just to combat TWIMTBP games where Nvidia have paid devs to render sub-pixel sized triangles that you can't even see. The optimisations will just cull those pointless items.

Sorry but at work at the moment so can't really spend time reading up on this.

For my spec below - is it worth going to the 11.1a drivers or not?

Kitch9 you questioned whether it was worth reverting back to 10.12 for 0.9 fps are there any benefits of going to 11.1a atm? - that question is to anyone just don't have time to read up sorry !

so what does this optimised tessilation tick box do in terms of benchmarking
and why is a problem if its on or off ( cheating ?? )
what should it be ? on or off if your doing say " heaven "

To be honest, if you can't see the cheats then its all well and good I say. If it was causing the games or benchmark to look worse then I would complain.

If you use it in benchmarks and then post to compare results it's cheating.

It should be off for fair comparison with other users results, it turns down the level of tessellation used giving more FPS.

It seems like a great addition to the cat ai to me. If amd can give you extra performance and still give you the same looking game then i am all for it.

I have not read into it fully but it also sounds like they are going to let you decide how much tesselation you want which is a good thing. I say this because if you are not happy with performance at full tesselation you can turn it down until you are happy with the performance a little like aa.

You can set it to off and run extreme in Heaven, the result is you run with no tessellation what so ever and in doing so fake the scores it gives.

When tessellation games become the norm and you have the option/ability to tone down or increase tessellation i think this will become a very good option.

When you run Heaven you can turn Tessellation on and off when on yes looks very good "well the stone walls and floors" but when you turn off to my eyes it just runs so much smoother so much so that if it was a game i am playing then more than likely I would turn down Tessellation to obtain smoother game-play.

I think this will become a great option, also AMD was talking about DEV's overdoing Tessellation for the sake of it which can bring down the game play experience, So if a game over cooks it on Tessellation then at least you have the option to maintain the look and feel of that game.

Good work AMD :))
