Well, after getting pretty good advice on these forums and comparing benchmarks, temps and power use I finally settled on a Sandy Bridge upgrade.

Here are the components I am getting :-

Intel Core i5-2500K
Foxconn P67A-S
GeIL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler

This is going into a windows 7 system, replacing a Q6600, Foxconn X38a and 4GB ram.

Hope the new Foxconn mobo is as stable and reliable as the one it's replacing. I also hope at some stage they bring out a Uefi bios update for it.

This has to last a long time!! :p

If you don't mind me asking, but what made you go for the Foxconn? (I am still trying to make up my mind as to what mobo to get.)

I went for the Foxconn because I already have a Foxconn motherboard and it really served me well. I also looked at the feature set of all the motherboards and it had everything I wanted at a good price, and I wanted a motherboard with two PCIe lanes going at least 8x and 8x.

I also considered the Msi and the Asus motherboards but didn't think they were worth the extra.

There seems to be lots of people posting about having issues with the Asus P67 boards, on this forums and other forums. Both Gigabyte and Foxconn are holding off on the uefi bios until all the kinks are ironed out.

For me I don't worry about boot speed, I rarely turn off the computer, only if I install new hardware or some software update requires a reboot. Other than that my PC is on. I just didn't think it was worth the extra £36 for the cheapest MSI board that has two PCIe x16 lanes. £36 for faster boot and a bit fancier interface? Not worth it in my situation anyway.

Of course Uefi will be better than the old Bios by far and will look to change to it as soon as Foxconn release a uefi bios for my mobo. :-)

Oh, one more thing about UEFI...the new BIOS will enable 3 TB hard drives to be used. I think the old Bios's have a limitaion on storage...

3TB hd's are not far away now...
