My near death experience plugging a old pc in (Epic fail)

Jesus bloody christ, clearing out my cupboard and all the junk, found a pc i built back in 2002 as a kid or somthing plugged it in pressed the button, nothing all happened, and thers a switch on the old psu to swap from summat volts to summat else, just presumed it was on the wrong one cause it was dark and didnt read it, clicked it to the other....

BANGGGGG, shot a 4 foot flame out the fan, plug socket at the wall sparked and blew the plug out of it, whole house's electrics and the streetlight outside went off for a few mins, and hell fire tonite!

a lot of sware words came out of my mouth in a matter of milliseconds :p

ears ringing like a bugger!

This is how I got started with PCs back in 1998. I blew up the power supply by flicking the voltage switch. Had to replace the power supply before parents found out. IT stores were just opening where I live and they had parts in stock with a little help from the guys in the store. I replaced it and it worked again.

Been there, done that back in '95 with an Acer P150

Although, as said, it was a loud pop/bang but that was it.... I think I made more noise than the PC when it popped :o

haha, seriously wasnt just a lil pop like a voltage regulator going on a motherboard, whole houses electrics r gone, lucky i got a generator outside in the shed lol
