Can I get a passport before the end of February?

Hi,

Tomorrow I plan on sorting out my first passport (Used to be named on my dads but long since expired, so need my own). Problem is I need to have it ideally before the end of February and definitely can't wait the 6 weeks quoted time I've been told.

Does anyone know much about the application process? With regards to meetings and what no that I may have to attend, I don't mind paying extra money if it means getting it earlier, I understand I'm not able to use the one-day scheme but what about the 1 week scheme? Can't find much on direct.gov saying whether I can use that or not.

Thanks :)

Allow six weeks for a first adult passport
In most cases you will need to attend a passport interview, so Fast Track and Premium services don't apply. The timings in this section are for other applications.

As it says 'most cases', I'd ring the Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000 asap to ask.

I know a friend got a passport in a few hours at the Liverpool regional office, but not sure if that was his first or not.

don't take long. when I made my sons passport in the summer, it was done in ten days. Shouldn't take that long

You're in off-peak so it should be quick. You can pay to have it done in 10 days or a week or something; I forget exactly but call them and ask.

e : I see you've already mentioned the 1 week scheme. Call them and ask.

If you need it guaranteed by then, I'd ring them. I think they only will guarantee that it'll be with you in 8 weeks iirc?

They may advise you to go to Liverpool to get it if you need it quickly x

First adult passport was a nightmare for me. Just over 2 months for me, fortunately I wasnt in a rush for it. I'm sure it depends a lot on a lot of different circumstances though.

I had to attend an interview, even though I'd previously been on my mums passport.

How long ago was this? Did you explore any of the other services such as one week scheme?

IIRC, if it's your first adult passport you are unable to use the fast-track scheme because of the requirement for some to go to an interview. My friend had to get his first adult one the other year and was telling me this. His came in a few weeks though. It's much quicker if you've had a childs one before, but as you haven't I'd phone them up and ask what the best course of action is.

There is an express service isn't there? 2 weeks or so if you have all the docs and such. Might have changed though, with all the craziness in the world today.

Last renewal was a nightmare though. Passport office lost my old (not quite expired) passport and didn't think to tell me. Effectively binned my renewal and didn't have any answers for me, no record of anything. Took 2 months or more to sort out, including a quizzing session from a Nigerian man in an ill fitting suit to ascertain that I was who I said I was and that I am indeed British

Just wanted to add to this. My passport ran out 3 years ago. Sent off an app for a new one on Tues 4th, paid the £8 to get checked and had the new passport on Fri 7th.

1) Call local passport office and arrange appointment
2) Go to Local passport office and pay £140 quid and give some photos and paperwork
3)Wait 4 hours
4) ????????
5) HOLIDAY?

I'd suggest calling IPS and seeing what they advise - it's a complication it being your first passport. However with ordinary passports they've tended to be pretty quick with the turnarounds recently - last year mine too less than a week although I did use the Post Office Check & Send service.

It's obviously worth doing it as soon as possible either way to give them the best possible chance of doing it in time as while you say you can't wait for the service you're definitely not going anywhere without the passport at all.

This was easter time last year.

Fast track passports weren't available when applying for a first time adult passport when i applied. This may have changed.

EDIT: i did also use the check and send service.

My brother and a friend from work both got their first passports late last year. They used the check and send service from the Post Office, had to attend an interview, and still got them well within 2 weeks.
