Hi,

I say we but I should be saying; will future generations see the likes of the world depicted in movies?

Will we see extreme control over our freedom and emotion like in Equilibrium?
How about flying cars like in Blade Runner/Fifth Element?
Will we see Demolition Man style automation and will we end up fighting these machines such as in the Terminator series of films?
Will the automation get so far that we'll end up plugging ourselves into the current world just to get a "fix". Sorta like Matrix...

Would you want the world to go there? As important as it is to live everyday as if it were your last it's kinda sad we won't see this kind of technology. There are glimpes of this around the world. Enter japan and it's culture shock from the technology around you alone.

Discuss.

Not any time soon.

Nope.

It's in the foetal stage.

and will we end up fighting these machines such as in the Terminator series of films?

We're already using unmanned machines in the middle east. It won't be long until they're completely autonomous and do the job themselves. So we'll probably end up fighting a robot that thinks for itself at some point. It just won't be bi-pedal and shooting lasers (for the foreseeable future).

What is this, I don't even?!

Would you want the world to go there?

Yes. I like the idea of transhumanism.

I agree. I posted in another thread that one of the things that makes me most depressed is that I won't live forever to see everything that is or will be. To learn all there is to learn.

K.

flying cars wont come till they're fully automated and humans cannot control them.

otherwise the damage they would cause would be insane.

they can a;lready but iirc it's illegal and there was an issue with the robot "tracking" the American troops while not having any orders.

It's guns here safe but it tended to point them at the troops and keep em trained on them.

the equilibrium route would be most likely , infact it nearly happened 60 years before the film did ! i dont think it will happen anytime soon though

could argue that we are all already controlled to some extent

where's that picture the one which shows the differences between 1984 and the other guys view.

the 1984 one ingformation is suppressed and controlled in the other there is so much inane crap in the media no one cares about the important stuff etc.

basically it came down to Orwell thought what we fear would control us while the other guy believed it would be what we loved.

His view was much more accurate we're all obsessed with our own enjoyment to care.

It's not because of some malevolent or controlling force it's just because that's the way we've tended to bumble along.

I'd love to see the world go to the dumps.

I'd also love to see it at the height of technology, and see how far we can go.

Also, regenerating cake.

Frustratingly enough this is one (amongst a long list) of annoying things of only living "3 score years and 10". I'll never get to see how it all works out over the next few hundred years.

With technology we're at such a cross roads, it'd be fascinating to see if it all ends in WWIII and a new dark ages, or if mankind finaly works out we're all human, unifies under one world government and finaly reaches for the stars in a meaningfull way.

Obviously other options involve machines taking over, alien bunnies invading and my personal favourite, all chaps being made sex slaves by the slightly green tinged but otherwise babealicious vixens from Mars.

Hey, it's my vision of the future, get your own if you don't like it ;)
