Has anyone as yet bought and unliocked one of these cards? I'm looking at picking a 6950 up but would prefer one with a non reference cooler. As yest MSI are the only one out as far as i can see.

There are rumours abound that AMD are going to disable the ability to unlock these 6950s or laser them off or something. Just wondered how that was coming along.

On GTX460's the twin-forza cooler provides worse cooling performane than the reference one. It might be the same for 6900's so don't assume non-referene is automatially better. I have no idea about unlocking.

no, they aren't unlockable but you can get a BIOS to enable overclocking beyond the normal limist without losing all the ATI features that are disabled once a reference 6950 is unlocked or clocked past the CCC clock limits

on the cooler front, what you said simply isnt true. And I tested one of these 6950 TFII at 945/1480 and it didnt even reach 50C under the heaven benchmark

which features are those?

powerplay, powertune, cfx functions are three that I noticed not sure if anything else goes

I assume your making reference to unlockable cards or just msi cards, because both of my his cards are unlocked to ASus 6950 unlocked shaded bios and I have all the features you say are disabled.

ScottiB, were amd ****** off with all the unlocking going on over Christmas
What do you know about amd's reaction ?

Hmm, I'd like to see more reviews of the 6950 Twin Frozr as it's my planned card upgrade next month. The only detailed one I found so far was a German site a few days ago.
