The FBI are after you.

In the largest crackdown in a single day in the hitory of the FBI, over 120 mobsters have been arrested and charged in an investigation into the acivities of the five New York mafia families.

Leaders of the Bonnano, Colombo, Lucchese, Genovese and Gambino families have been arrested and charged in what is sure to be a hammer blow against organised crime. Also targetted were memberss of the DeCavalcante family in New Jersey ( of which the Sopranos is based on. )

Much of the information came from informants, turned mob members and wiretaps.

It seems that Omerta is on the wane.

Link.

Always thought the Mafia had rather died down a bit. Cousin born in NY said its way less visible than when he was a kid in the 70s/80s.

Interesting, I wonder how much of an impact this will have on the Mob in the longer term. In a funny sort of way I'm a little disappointed that omerta is on the wane - many of the Mafia may be nasty pieces of work but at least they had a certain code of honour...

Meh.. still all ruthless greedy animals in the end..

I didn't realise it was still such a large problem in NY. It's all very Godfather and Soprano-y isn't it really. Good job by the US authorities but it would be interesting to see what becomes of all these arrest in the long term, who will get charged and who will get released.

Might go play some GTA4 in celebration.

Big time.

The five families once ruled NY's organised crime but have largely been curbed after RICO indictments against their leaders in the 1980s except Paul Castellano of the Gambinos who never saw the courtroom thanks to John Gotti's ambition and a hail of bullets.

Joe Pistone's infiltration of the Bonnano family as Donnie Brasco wreaked massive damage to that family and others as well.

La Cosa Nostra never really recovered.

Some still adhere to it.

Vic Amuso.

This guy was sentenced to life with no chance of parole and refused to cut any deal and has stuck to the code.

Carmine Persico has done the same and remains defacto boss of the Colombo family although he will never be free.
