I've just replaced my BFG 9800gt oc with a inno3d gts450 1gb the 9800 kept freezing during game play over heating I suspect .my old card ran bfbc2 perfectly on high but this new one stutters as though the fps drops very low especially when I bring the gun scope up to look through ,it even runs bad on medium setting.
I downloaded afterburner and overclocked it a little to inprove things but its still rubbish.Iv'e now put my old card back in.
Im using xp would this make any difference to the cards peformance?.I have little knowledge about these things.
when I put my old card back in I tested the fps using afterburner just to see the difference between them both and it was a lot less compared to the new one so why the bad performance??
computer stats if this helps
amd athlon duel core 5600+
3 gig ram
700w psu
xp o/s
help please I'm puzzled
p.s card drivers were up to date

With the 9800GT it'll probably be running DX9 or DX10 mode.

With the 450 it'll be running DX11, also check that HBAO is turned off (it's an FPS killer).

If you want to force BC2 to run in DX9:

Go to Documents -> BFBC2 -> settings.ini

Find the line that says:

DXVersion=Auto

Change Auto to 9

EDIT : Hold up, you are on XP... prolly not that at all then :o

Well your rig isn't exactly cutting edge but should still hack BFBC2.

It is true BFBC2 does scale very well with Quads and they handle the load a lot better.

What resolution are you running? As this is the make or break info really.

I understand that quad core is better but how does that affect the comparison between the 2 cards I'm not sure I understand that statement in relation to my problem.

Have you checked to make sure anti-ailising isn't set to 4x or 8x in BC2's settings ?

Might be worth checking the Nvidia control panel to make sure aa isn't on globally there as well, I think.

( havent used the Nvidia CP in a while, so not sure if aa set globally would override any ingame settings - if in any doubt set it to ' application controlled ' if you can )

And as Hex suggested, make sure HBAO is off in the settings as well.

the psu is an ezcool 700w Im sorry I dont know the model no it has a 6 pin power lead for the card

I suspect that might be the source of your problems. The GTS450 does require more power than a 9800GT.

However,EZ-Cool PSUs are not that great and can cause damage to your components. On top of this the power they actually provide is no where near the rating advertised on their PSUs.

I would replace it as soon as possible.
