Unfortunately it seems these are no longer manufactured. there are a few online tyre stores that still have some though not in my size (205 / 45 / 16").

I thought i had found them in stock at bestbuytyres.co.uk so i placed an order, though i've just received this email -

"Dear Mr Hamilton

Thank you for your order. Unfortunately, the tyres you have ordered are unavailable. I have tried the manufacturer direct and checked availability with our suppliers and regrettably there is no stock available.

Please contact me at your earliest convenience in order to discuss how you wish to proceed with your order.

Kind Regards"

So, any suggestions for a similarly priced / performing tyre?

Cheers

Personally I found the Asymmetrics to be awful compared to the GS-D3s they replaced (205/45/17 on a Subaru Legacy B4 RSK). OTOH, my GF claims they're a great improvement over the GS-D3s (245/40/17 + 215/45/17 on a 200SX)

Going to watch this thread with interest.

What car are they for?

Looking on Camskill in that size I'd probably plump for the PS3s or some Continentals.

I got 4 new Contiental Contact 2 for my 182! Still bedding in but kind of regret not getting the PS3!!

What car are they for?

Premium Contact 2 or Sport Contact 2? Premium contact 2 is only really a touring tyre and the Sport Contact 2 has been discontinued for some years now. Replaced by the Sport Contact 3 which is about to be replaced with the Sport Contact 5.

Are they confirmed as a replacement Dandle? I was under the impression they were not a replacement but were a new product positioned at the ultra high end.

The Sport Contact 5p which is out now is the higher end tyre that is above the SC3 but early this year they are releasing a normal SC5 which will replace the SC3. I have a PDF that shows its performance and wear characteristics to be quite superior to the old tyre.

Thanks for the suggestions. It would seem the GS-D3s have left a bit of a hole in the market.

They're only going on my Wife's 206 GTI, so the Michelin PS3s are a little more than I was hoping to spend (the last Goodyear's i bought were ~£90 from what i remember).

The Toyo T1-Rs seem to get mostly good reviews on the various owner's forums that google dug-up, i'll also take a look at the Avon's/Falken's that were mentioned.

After exhausting the remaining few online tyre sites this morning I've found that ATS still have the GS-D3s showing as available. I'll be giving them a call shortly to make sure, though not getting my hopes up.

Bridgestone RE050A's :) awesome tyre in the wet.

True that! Other people used to moan about it's performance in the wet, but i never understood why, because i was always very very impressed by it. I never got any under/oversteer in the wet unless i was being very silly or trying to provoke it.

I'm having CS3's put on tomorrow, so once they're scrubbed in a bit, i'll be able to compare and contrast them with the RE050A's!

Assymetrics and PS3's are not available in 16" sizes. PS3's also require a mortgage to buy.

Nonsense. You can get PS3's in 16" sizes.

Also, bear in mind the PS3 is not the PS2 replacement, the PS Super Sport is, so PS3's are cheaper than PS2's, if you can get them.
