Another "spec me a bike thread"

I've just looked at that boardman pro and would definately recommend not getting it.
You'd be paying a massive premium for having a top-end X0 RD and an X9 FD whereas the rest of the bike doesn't spec anywhere near as well as those 2 components. The cassette alone negates the benefit of the X0 and X9 deraileurs over X7 as they don't shift any better. They just weigh less and that cassette is a heavy mother!

Just to confuse me more!:D:D

I just dont have the time to build a frame up from components - i dont doubt i could do build one up but i would rather just buy and go.

My only concern with the on-one is that i can't get hold of a test ride. There seems to be a lot of comments to say go a size smaller than normal becuase the frame has a long top tube.

The on-one does seem the best option in the range but is it worth £200 more than the Cube Team ltd??
 
avoid that norco like the plague

id pay the extra for the on-one just because the fork is that much better, but mainly because I saw someone on one of those cubes a few months ago and it looks horrid with all that white stripey bits everywhere - id liken it to people with new bright white trainers haha

the cube I am going to see this afternoon is anodised black but indeed beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Norco is out of the reckoning now - HT all the way

below is the sizing guide for the on-one.

I am 6"3' with inside leg of 34. so it seems right between 18" and 20".

Not being able to test one is a tough call to spend a grand on a bike and pick a size! I am tempted to go 18" and higher seatpost but then again not sure!:confused:

 
What kind of riding will you be using it for? You say you'll be going to 7 Stanes with it but there's a lot if variation there. The 18" will be more manoeuvrable than the 20" but saying that I'm 6"1' and take an 18" HT. I'm not overly familiar with on-one sizing but have an ask over at the Singletrack World forums about sizing a they should be able to sort you out, plenty of on-one riders over there who will vouch for them.

Anyway, go for the on-one over the cube, it's twice the bike the cube is. Just to reiterate, don't buy an alu HT with your budget. A good steel frame isnt much heavier than an alu one, is a lot more forgiving over the bumpy stuff and will feel 10x better when cornering.

I am 5'10" and my On-One was an 18" and like I said on it I felt over stretched I would have probably been better off with the 16", so you would most likely be much better off with the 18" than 20".

It is better to be a little cramped on the bike than over stretched you could always run a longer stem and layback post.

good man - appreciate your input lots. A look around and lots of people saying they are 6"2 etc and ride 18" on-ones etc - a few saying the 20" is to long.

oh yes the colour is subjective of course!

im 6'3" and bought a 20" and it was fine

like someone said if you want long xc ride comfort and good climbing get the 20, if you prefer more downhilly stuff / swooshy stuff get a smaller one
 
I was stuck over frame size for my bike when I bought it... Problem was no shops had a 21" and 23" frame in stock (all 19" in stock) and, at 6'5-6'6 I was in the middle of the two. I eventually went for the 23" due to me having a 36" inside leg.

The bike fits ok but, until I get to sit on the smaller size, I guess I will still have this wee niggle...

I have to work on the fact that my current bike is blue and therefore replacing this with another blue one will be much easier to pass off when the wife enquires!!

If she sees (and she can't miss) a glow in the dark one - she will know somethings up!!

This purchase is coming from the "wife doesn't need to know" fund!:D

The carbon on-ones are really highly rated (apart from looks which people tend to be one way or the other - personally I love them) but as a build this is for completely different riding to the 456 build. If you want something light and racey then seriously consider this but if you want a fun bike to just to have a play with and you're not bothered about times/racing then I'd say go 456.

been speaking to this chap about his auction - he's only 20mins up the road and it's a tempting price for what it is - I reckon could get it for £850 or a bit less. 2011 model with fox forks is £1089.

Different bike from the 456 which is what I was pretty set on - currently on hold due to an exam in 2 weeks time but after that it's purchase time!
 
I'm currently looking at getting the Boardman Team FS, how come you've decided for HT?

The Team FS has a great spec for the price, whats am I missing? lol
