I'm pretty sure my Corsair HX650W is dead, but I have no idea why and I'd like it not to happen again. Basically I came to switch on the PC the other morning and nothing happened, the power in the house had tripped off. I put the trip switch back on and everything else powered back up fine but the PC was dead. With the paper clip test and using other power cables/PSU I realised it was the PSU that was lifeless. But in all other posts I've read there's usually smoke/burning smell/some noise... I had no problems whatsoever before this and non of those symptoms, nothing seems to have fried at all. Could it simply be a fuse gone in the PSU? Although wouldn't that smell/make a noise? Cheers for any thoughts.

First i would cycle the power using the rear switch, disconnecting cord and pressing front soft power button to discharge the capacitors fully. Then leave it for a good 20 mins and then replace cord and try again. If this fails then I would possibly look into RMA.

hmmmm. i dont think the psu has an internal trip switch, least i can't see any mention of one in the spec sheets for it. so i'm afraid it does sound like it's kaput :(

tho hopefully some1 more knowledgeable may come along with a more advice. sorry

Have you got a multimeter? or have tried paperclip trick? by shortening 24pin and fans plugged in

Don't have a multimeter but tried the paper clip and nothing. Just seems strange that it's gone after only 1 year, I don't put it under much strain and got 2 extra fans in the case keeping it all cool. Direct RMA is going to be a pain, seems you have to send it to the netherlands :(.

Corsair are top notch on RMA so it wont be too much hassel, high quality psus tend to die without the bangs, pops and smoke etc due to proctections that are built in to prevent damaging your system.
