Had the house done up lovely, many of the rooms are empty but bright and look big compared to before. Had the guy come over to do his estate agent photography and frankly they are the WORST estate agent photo's i've seen!. Lens Cap hood clipping can clearly be seen in the corners on some, the photo's have such bad lighting than one even has a shadow in the center cast from the photographer!. They all look cramped a bedroom with my bed in it looks as if i can hardly move

So tomorrow i'll complain, as a photographer myself i could spot so many flaws and i'm not even an estate agent. How can someone highly praise the work that was done and how big it looks but not put this into photo's. Are these estate agent's self taught?

p.s The Living Room shot clearly has camera shake!

I don't know what you're expecting, 90% of estate agents have truly terrible photos. Most simply send anybody with a compact to take them, it's been a big saving for them not having to employ professionals to produce the shots. Unsurprisingly, decent estate agents tend to be better in this and all regards...it's a you get what you pay for thing at the end of the day.

If you are using a higher end agent and they've produced rubbish though, query it with them, if they're actually good they'll do something about it.

i think most estate agents just take there own pics for advertising, as to pay a pro tog would come from the profits of the sale. Therefor the person taking the pics is unlikely to have any photography skilz to speak of.It maybe worth takeing your own pics & give them to your estate agent to improve your chances of a sale. Good luck with the sale Neil79 :)

Really? because this is the first time i've come across it, i've seen tons of photo's from many different estate agents. Lens Hoods Clipping , Huge shadows , Camera shake and dark shots are not acceptable.

Good Idea Throttle, as the shots i've taken are far beyond his! ;)

And thanks, selling this property will be a massive help to my suffering family :)

Yes, thats a great idea, take the photos yourself and take them in. My friends partner did this when they were selling their house. He had a DSLR (and knew how to use it!) and he was also disappointed with the pictures the Estate Agent had taken - the Estate Agent didn't even take a photo of the back garden which was one of the best selling points! The Estate Agents didn't mind at all and were happy to use their shots.

Good luck with the sale :)

Yes, Really

all estate agents i've seen have just been women that dont know how to use a camera with a compact stuffed in their hand.

You've been lucky.

What's the problem? A house buyer isn't going to give a monkeys about the quality of an estate agent's when deciding whether to part with hundreds of thousands of pounds. A non-issue I would've thought.

Good photographs help sell things. You wouldn't see Swiss watchmakers taking shots of their latest models on an Iphone, would you?

they're estate agents not photographers though. they get handed crappy point and shoot cameras and take a photo of a room. I'm sure if they got given a decent camera with a wide angled lens they'd take the same crappy shots as well though.

Really? because if i saw these i wouldn't go near the house and a number of other people said the same.

Some people in this thread really need to get their heads in gear :o

Well said, there's bad photography and there's terrible photography!. These shots are seriously bad, the garden looks like an overgrown jungle doesn't show the path the decking or the chairs just bush's!

Pictures on an Estate Agents website wouldn't sell a house to me either, you go round to see a house based on its location and accommodation it provides, and price obviously. There are high end estate agents who do use professional photographers, but in the main you just get the actual estate agent turning up with a compact!

As already said I'd send them pictures if you can, you'll get the representation you want then.

i would, and have, written off lots of properties due to crappy pics tho - if they dont give a representation of a good house then you're selling your property short.

That said some nicel photographed properties have been complete holes, so its no guarantee, obviously.

Went in this morning some female was there and the general attitude was, these are ok. Don't see anything wrong, oh i'll try and open your shots but wait i don't even know how to open them or how to use a cd drive

She saw their garden shot he did and i got " Oh, yeh not sure what happened there maybe he saw something good in the shot and we didn't ":o

I left the cd with them and i said a lot more about how unhappy i was but the general response was we don't really care, i told them to use mine. But i just got the response we might not be able to, not that we don't prefer to use ours but we might not be able to open them.

Jpg's ffs, what software can't open a jpg file!

I mentioned about the lens hood blocking out every corner of the shot and huge dark shadows and bad lighting. She said what's a lens hood :D, they use lens hoods on their own cameras but don't know what it is

Lol.. They sound like a bunch of morons who shouldn't be in a place like an estate agents.. Best of luck for the sale and getting them to use your photos!

But regarding bad/good photos, it has put me off a few flats i'm trying to rent for 2nd year uni. Yes, depending on whether it's a really good location/price, you may go and get a viewing but if the pictures give you the impression that it's really not what you're looking for (even though it could be!) then you'll stick it into the reject pile.

Haven't looked at proper houses/flats as they'll be over a students budget! But I agree, most of them are so so bad. And it's not even like they have more than 3/4 rooms to photograph (in my case)!

I went in again this morning showed him the photo's and i think it was an automatic yes we will use these :D. Just checked and sure enough my photo's are not being used for the house sale

:D:D Thanks all

Well your Estate Agents sound a very helpful bunch - i don't think! :(

I'm afraid by now I would have changed Estate Agents because if they have a 'don't care' attitude about the pictures i'm not sure they would feel any differently about selling your house unfortunately :(

Lots of luck with the sale, and keep an eye on them lol :)
