Clio or Punto?!

I had a 1.2 8v facelift mk2 and it was great. Granted it was slow as **** but it got me from a to b, wasn't uncomfortable and never let me down. Just service costs and normal costs such as battery (6 years old), exhaust (6 years old), brake pads and tyres. Got 45mpg around town too, and 55+ on the motorway. Brilliant first car.

But you need to watch out for HG failure as if they are pushed hard from cold they are prone to go. As said before clutch and gearbox should be nice and light and should be no noises from the steering. Watch out for squeaky rear suspension too.

Apart from that they are great first cars. As for the clio, I have a mate who has one who hasn't really had any trouble, but the electrics can be a bit dodgy on them. Just make sure whatever model you go for it has a decent service history, looks clean and looked after, nice owner, and no rusty undersides.

Well, my mate has a clio that i want, so i'm going his laters to drive it around the block to see if i like it. I am liking the clio more looks wise, especially with the grill on the front.

They do look illegal, only way would be to take it to an MOT station or something and just ask, unless you have one of those light tester things.

Basically you want that car, without the tints and subs on the rear shelf.

Povo spec Mk1 Clio, cut springs, banded steels and stretch. Roll in the win.

Same goes for the Punto, but the earlier one is uglier which I guess wins harder.

Stay clear from that one. Looks like a right chav has owned that. Illegal tints, parcel shelf speakers *shudders*. Also, the MIA is the absolute base model. You get NOTHING apart from some seats, 4 wheels and power steering. Don't even get a rev counter/temp gauge.
