Hi guys,

Can you please help me connect all my internal wiring. The manual for both the case and motherboard are only about 75% useful. Half the stuff isn't explained anywhere that I can see, and seeing as this is my first build I don't really know where everything goes.

My motherboard is a MSi P67A-GD65; my case is a Cooler Master Storm Scout.

  1. The case has a SATA cable coming from somewhere (no idea where). What's it for and do I need to connect it? I have already connected the HDD and DVD drive with separate SATA cables to the motherboard.

  2. The motherboard came with a little packet of connector blocks. Not sure what they're for, and it doesn't really explain properly where they go on the motherboard. I know I need to connect the front panel wires to one of the blocks and then put the block on the motherboard connection JFP1 but it's not properly explained which wires go into which and which way round they should go (the block has + and - symbols but the wires have 'G' and a triangle... does G go into - or..?)

  3. My graphics card sits over the pins on the motherboard for the front panel wires... lol wut? How am I supposed to connect them?

  4. The front fan has a male molex connector with 2 pins. What do I plug it into? There's only 4-pin connectors from the power supply... is that fine?

  5. The case has 2 more molex connectors which presumably go to the top and back fans. However, the first is one wire which then has two 4-pin molex connectors (a M and F) at the end. I'm guessing this is the 140mm top fan. What do I plug these into, as the PSU doesn't have a 4-pin male connector.

The other is just a 2-pin male connector, which I guess is the back 120mm fan. Again, do I just plug this into a 4-pin from the PSU?

I no doubt have tons more questions. Mainly they are about the motherboard connector pins but any help with the above to get started would be great.

Thanks.

1) the case has a Esata connection, so plug the sata cable into one of the motherboards sata headers.

2)the front panel connectors you need should have pwr led, hdd led, rw, pwrs on them, these go into that little block, doesnt matter which way around the reset switch and power button are, if your case power light and harddrive activity light dont work then swap the pwr led around 180 degress and the same for the hdd led connector

3)impossible? you got the card in the right slot? how many cards are you using?

4) yep.

5) why havent you got enough psu 4pin molex connectors? what psu is it?

3. The graphics card is in the 2nd PCI-E slot because it's the only place the card will fit in the case (after removing the HDD cage). It definitely covers the pins for the front panel... :(

You can see it in this photo, on the far right of the mobo where there is a 'JF'. Under the card.

5. What I meant is the wire for the top case fan splits in two and has both a M and F connector. Shall I just plug in the one that I can to the PSU or do both have to be?

It's a pass through connector so that you lose a PSU connection just for a fan, only one side should be connected to the PSU!

New questions as well...

  1. There are 2 wires from the case marked USB. There's only one USB slot on the motherboard that I can see. What do I do with the other one, or should they both definitely go in somewhere?

  2. The cable from the PSU has 3 molex connectors but at the end of the cable is a small connector with 4 female pin holes. No idea where that goes or what it's for.

The 4 female holes will be for a floppy disk drive. Don't worry about it.
Some boards have several USB headers, others only 1 or 2. If you have cables left over, just tie them out of the way.

What is stopping the graphics card in the first slot? Pics?

What MSI board are you using, as your card in the second may be limited to 4x which I believe would hamper the performance of the card!

So, in short, building my first PC has been a complete nightmare.

Brilliant. So now I'm really ****ed. Even after modding the case I am still ****ed.

What do I do? I have already wasted days and a hell of a lot of money trying to build this P.O.S.

Yeah, I don't have a dremel lol.

Guess I'll have to order another case and try to eBay this one or something. That means dismantling and repacking everything for about the 4th time... fun times.

**** that - I'll deal with it tomorrow. I'm hitting the beers and will just play MW2 on my trusty gaming laptop.
