Evenin' guys. I have an email account in work. I use Microsoft Outlook. I'm just wondering if it would be possible for me to get easy access to the emails on my iPhone? The email appears to be a pop3 account going through BTconnect.

Forgot to mention that we use an exchange server in work.

thanks

Exchange server with Iphone is easy. You just need the server address and the username and password you log on with. THere should be an option to choose exchange when you add an email account.

use exchange at work...sadly work provides me with a blackberry....

Write the account settings down, and put them in the phone.

Replace "pop.xxx" with "imap.xxx" though, unless you only want the email downloaded from the server, which is not practical.

Just ask your work permissions first, you might not be allowed to access it on a portable device which isn't owned by the company. I know I'd be in a world of trouble for doing it and then having my phone nicked/lost unless it was encrypted.

Are you sure you've got the right settings - username, password, domain and mail server?

buckeejit: If you aren't sure what your mail server details are, I'm afraid we aren't going to be able to guess for you! You need to speak to your IT dept/email administrator. And as others have pointed out, your office might not allow you to do this anyway, and hence have blocked the feature.

I've took a screenshot (while in work) of the incoming and outgoing mail server details.

These might not be correct. For example, the internal address used to set up Outlook on my work PC isn't the same as the external address (firewalls etc.), and wouldn't work on a device outside the company network.

ok, thanks and thanks everyone else. I suppose I'll just check with the IT department on Monday and get the setting from them. cheers.

Outlook web access on the exchange server needs to be configured to allow access for an iphone as it will not just work on a default install.

Always check with your IT and HR before accessing work systems from home through non-normal means as it may be a breach of a policy. I certainly allow none of my users to do the above and if I found out they were trying or managed to circumvent any safeguards to do so they would be on a quick trip to a disciplinary.

To add an Exchange account to your iPhone you would need to add it with the ActiveSync settings. As suggested check with your IT admins because they will know the right settings.

Generally the server address is the same as the outlook web access url, and the auth details are your normal email username/password.

This is of course with Microsoft Exchange.

We get similar cases at work. Takes about 5 minutes to talk them through how to set it up. Luckily, we manage their exchanges so we know their exact settings and it's a breeze.

You need to contact the person who manages your exchange or whatever.
