Has Youtube been slower over the last few months?

It's been a bit weird for mer over the last few days. Some videos would load the entire clip in seconds, and some would require buffering time (360p on 20mb).

The video below will show you how to fix this problem:

Who is your ISP?

Only SKY and BE Internet dont shape traffic at peak times.

I think not. All ISPs traffic shape now to various degrees some being much worse than others. You are confusing that with throttling and unless it has changed VM don't throttle their top package.

lol :p

I feel the slowness too. In my experience, the oldest, most random, most least viewed videos are the slowest. The popular videos always load fast for me.

Been ridiculously slow this entire week for me. It can just about stream a 360p video when it's being good without buffering. Anything higher and I have to let it sit and buffer for a while. Irritating to say the least.

I'm sure it's got something to do with the servers videos are on being in different locations so I'd assume transfer speeds are going to vary between videos depending on distance?

Last few days for me has been poo but sometimes I find I can get around stalling by changing the resolution (eg: up to 720p) so I assume that different quality versions of the same video must be hosted on different servers?

Yes super slow though sometimes super fast, like the red bar on a 5 minute video fills up in around 2-3 seconds (TalkTalk 8MB). Might be messing about with the servers.

The irony. The 'fix-it' video has been on its swirly buffer status for the last 10 minutes :-) (excuse my large font... eyesight)

And yes, YouTube has been intermittently rubbish here for the last couple of months, too. It doesn't seem time-dependent either; as above its seems more channel related. *shrug*

On sky here, been bad for a while now.

I personally think it's google doing the throttling, been slower since they took over.

Other video sites are fine so it's not the isp shaping.
