Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

My uni Wi-Fi connection requires a proxy.pac file to be downloaded to access email and the likes, do you guys know if this is possible to do on Android, as it is a bit frustrating not getting my push emails while in uni.

I have spent about 7months customising it and getting the layout with all the short cuts, everything exactly how I want it. Loads of applications and games are installed on my phone (including about 5 big gameloft ones I paid for over text). Finally I am nearly happy with it, however the random spurts of extreme lag are driving me mad!

Is there anyway I can fix my lag without having to default my mobile and start from scratch?

Thanks!

:)

Anyone know when Samsung are going to announce the replacement of the G S? I am hoping it will be more than just the new google phone.

MWC 2011 possibly. If announced then, then we can probably expect a late spring or early summer release.

I'm tempted by this phone! Any major cons with it you've found so far?

It's between this the DHD and maybe the iPhone4. The only pros I can see about the iPhone is the high ppi screen and build quality. The DHD would be great but doesn't have the S-AMOLED. The SGS doesn't look that well built though, also how's the screen quality? I'm using a 3G at the moment but getting bored of the crappy OS (imo).

Or is there something special around the corner?

Even though the SGS is made of cheap shiny plastic it does feel very firm in the hand. The screen is fantastic and by the far the best feature of the phone with very vivid colours and black blacks. The only real downside hardware wise is the sometimes lackluster GPS performance. If you do decide to get one and you are into flashing differtent ROMS etc make sure the 3 button modes work as some phones have the modes disabled though there is a chance these phones can be fixed with a flash.

The S2 looks unreal, bet that won't be cheap

Thanks Diablo, might try one out tomorrow and decide if I should buy it or wait. They look around £150 cheaper than the iPhone which is a bonus.

I don't mind flashing the ROMs at all, had a Hero ages ago and kind of miss the features.

Flash on Stock Android "2.1 update 1"

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question;

My dad has the SGS which shows firmware version "2.1 update 1" - does this come with flash enabled? He hasn't flashed to a different ROM or anything (he won't dare :D).

We've tried a few flash websites that show "Flash Player required, click here to download" etc. I've enabled plug ins on the settings but has not helped.

Also, should he be on 2.2 and is this sent OTA?

Thanks for any help

You officially need Android 2.2 but I've read of workarounds

Well after me breaking my phone trying to flash the 3-button combo fix I took it to the local samsung approved repair centre, who were unable to fix it so sent it off to samsung. Got it back today, no charge (even though I told them what I was doing when I broke it) running 2.2 and had the 3-button combo enabled :D

Couldn't have got a better result - good work samsung repairs!

Ye, I had read that TMobile would fix your phone if pushed hard enough but would involve sending it off anyway, so figured it was worth a try myself for a instant fix..had to send it away anyway so nothing really lost esp as they didnt hold me responsible for my inability to follow others instructions properly.
