you don't need to be a member on there to download the files.

on your phone hold vol down + home + power

keep hold of them and it should bring up a menu.

wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik

it may sort your phone out, it will not wipe any apps or info on your phone.

also that's the menu you need to flash a new rom. try that paranoidandroid rom from the xda

Will see how it is with cashe wiped

its in advanced if you have that option. if you don't i think you only have the basic menu installed and your going to have to update and then flash a new rom.

Google something like galaxy s 2.3.4 update and root as well. then flash a new custom rom

my mate not answering yet so not sure which one i used. the paranoid should be good he mates roms for other phones as well

Due to ongoing problems with CM9 on my SGS1 - a periodic 'Encryption Failed' error that wipes all user data - and the lagfest that is CM10, I'm looking for another custom rom to try and that Paranoid Android ROM is the most interesting one in a long time.

Whenever I reflash CM9, I always do a factory reset followed by a flash of EZ-Base and then install CM9 over that. Would the same approach be okay here? I read the XDA thread about PA and it just says to do a factory reset, but I'd feel happier stripping off CM9 just in case ...

Hi all

I'm looking into rooting my Galaxy S and installing a ROM, problem is that I've never done it before.

Does rooting the phone and installing a decent ROM, increase the performance of the phone?

What guide for rooting should I be looking at? (as there seems to be so many)

What ROM is good and snappy for the Galaxy S? (Slimbean seems to be quite popular over at XDA)

My phone is very sluggish and at times can lock up, I've tried factory resetting it, but it's just the same. Currently using the stock 2.35 GB firmware that I upgraded via kies.

Cheers

The performance is improved when you move off of the Samsung rom, moving away from Gingerbread is the way forward!
I'm currently using the latest Slimbean RC after being on the SlimICS rom for a few months, very happy with the performance.
I don't know about guides, but the last time I needed to root the phone, I used superoneclick. Was easy enough.

Due an upgrade now, but think I'll carry on with the GalaxyS for quite a while yet, it's still doing a good job.
