i have only just noticed after an install my 6950 doesnt have a full sized display port like the 5870

seeing as the mini to standard adapters are really expensive compared to a dvi-d dual will i loose anything getting a cheap one of these off ebay?

also i do have a single link dvi-d.. will this work with either a u2711 or u2410 because of the larger resolutions/bits?

Single link will work perfctly with an U2410 but you will require the dual link cable for the U2711.

As for adaptors, have a look at the display port section here on OcUK.

As you can see, not exactly a massively expensive deal to be fair. They are however not active but passive so you will need to do a little research in how you wish to make a connection with your screen and GPU as this could potentially make a difference.

Active adaptors can be found at the below link.

Hope that helps.

I had a look for a cable that has a full size male DP connector on one end and a male mini DP connector on the other end. There isn't any of these on OCUK, but you can find them on other reputable sites for ~£6-10 + postage.

Admittedly, not very cheap for a cable - but they are relatively rare.

As for single link DVI - for a 1920x1200@60Hz monitor like the U2410 then there is just enough bandwidth for this to work fine. However, with a U2711 with 2560x1440@60Hz, then single link just isn't enough - so dual link would be required in this case.

ok i have a single and a dual link cable, [was using dual link for u2410 and DP for u2711] but will just use the single for the u2410 for now..

did not know about active and passive.. will have to look into it. and yes i was looking for mini DP to standard DP

may not matter in the end, i possibly have a locked 6950 so will be going back to a 5870 if that is the case

somethings not right with it, flash it, it says verified, on reboot, doesnt recognise a card is there :/ fail

quite annoyed by this tbh

there was a wipe of a brow for sure

just fyi ill post my crysis benchmarks for 5870 6950 and 6970 flash

Run #1- DX10 1900x1200 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 38.49
Run #2- DX10 1900x1200 AA=4x, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 33.49
Run #1- DX10 1900x1200 AA=8x, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 34.79

6950 [at stock everything]
Run #1- DX10 1900x1200 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 36.46
Run #2- DX10 1900x1200 AA=4x, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 31.71
Run #3- DX10 1900x1200 AA=8x, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 32.855

6970 [at stock 6970 bios clocks]
Run #1- DX10 1900x1200 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 40.77
Run #2- DX10 1900x1200 AA=4x, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 35.585
Run #3- DX10 1900x1200 AA=8x, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 36.67

my i7 was at 2.66GHz at this point, spec as in sig

everything on the flash is better than all the other 2, the 5870 is better than the 6950 and 8x aa seems better than 4! .. will run crysis with 8x as in game i was running 4

would OCuk be interested to sale mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort adaptors?

the U2410 and U2711 both are sold with a displayport cable, it worked great in 5870, but the newer cards for some absurd reason, decided to use mini-DP.

their use of mini-DP meant i can't use DP anymore, so i went with nvidia cos i'll have to settle with DVI anyway. bad move ATI.

another reason is that i prefer nvidia driver.

but if AMD had put in normal displayport, i'd have considered 6970.

not all manufacturers provide the mini-DP to DP adaptor. it's a draw of luck.

besides, i bought gtx580 on launch day. was very disappointed to see mini-DP on 6870 and lack of adaptor in most 6870 boxes.

The thing is - a new top-end graphics card costs ~£270-400, a cable than converts mini DP to DP costs ~£6-10 retail.

I agree that all cards which use mini DP should come with an adapter/cable in the box to use standard DP (as it would cost them a few pennies), but I certainly wouldn't let the absence of an adapter (or the use of mini DP in the first place) affect my graphics card choice in any way - it simply isn't worth it.

its annoying, but no way id change to nvidia lol

im gonna have to find a mini cable, i may get 2 so i can connect both the u monitors to the ati card via DP
